My choice for the first playoff tourney is predominately based on last year performance, and value odds. Do I think he will win? No. Is it worth it? Sure. Anything can happen, he has an outside chance.

To win Matt Goggin 125-1 sia

72 holes
Yang over Poulter -110

If there is one PGA member who is immune to "winner's letdown" it's Yang. It's a cultural thing. The work ethic of Asians. His age. His starting his notorious and glorious run at an oldish age. Not to mention he is playing lights out all year. His average strokes per round is a full shot better than last year, or any year. Poulter is a blast to watch on TV. His talent and his demeanor. I really do believe he is a bit of a bottler though. My money goes on Yang.

Between Green Bay and Iowa City
Outrights:

Barclays:

Luke Donald(80/1) e.w.
- - Luke Donald is alive and well and driving himself hard - Telegraph
No minor accomplishment - The Boston Globe (About 2/3 of the way through article)
I like my "record" when I have a player very much in mind on my initial short list, and then my "due diligence" takes me places that buttress my thinking, and particularly if there is a storyline that can be characterized as a burr under the saddle. Except for the size of the greens, there appear to be some similar demands here to shaping drives and approach shots in the wind, and negotiating shaved and sloping green complexes, as required on the Fazio course at Marisol on which Donald won in 2006.

Jeff Quinney(125/1) e.w.
- -

Stephen Ames(100/1) e.w.
- -

Zach Johnson(50/1) e.w.
- -

Lucas Glover(50/1) e.w.
- -

Vijay Singh(40/1) e.w.
- -

Ryan Moore(80/1) e.w.
- - http://www.nj.com/golf/index.ssf/2009/08/ryan_moore_surging_as_barclays.html
I can easily picture the latest winner taking that amazing feeling and putting it to good effect in the immediate aftermath (i.e., see Camilo Villegas).

Safeway:

Michelle Wie(14/1) e.w.
- - http://www.golf.com/golf/tours_news/article/0,28136,1918630,00.html
Everything changed last week - once again Michelle Wie is a force to be reckoned with. It's not hard to be wrong about a 14-1 shot, but my catechism instructs me to expect a bounce in her awesome 19 year old step with her joyfully chomping at the bit, and the polar opposite of a letdown.

Boeing:

Mark O'Meara(22/1) e.w.

Round 1 plays (1pt):

Jim Furyk to beat Padraig Harrington +138 @ Stan James [tie loses]
Two particular angles in opposing Harrington. The first is the snowmen he has recorded in his last two events ... leading Tiger by one shot with three holes to play, he took eight at the 16th hole at Firestone to lose the event, and then in the final round of the PGA Championship he was one shot behind a faltering Tiger when he took another eight, a quintuple bogey this time, to lose his title. He may be in-form, but such self-destruction must surely take its toll on someone even as mentally tough as Pod. The second angle is that he has never done well in the PGA Tour Playoffs. His three Playoff finishes in 2007 read: 35th, mc, 11th (of 30); his three Playoff finishes in 2008 read: mc, mc, 55th. Furyk may not be as competitive as he once was, but he is still very consistent and these are great odds for opposing a player who may understandably struggle this week.

Sergio Garcia to beat Padraig Harrington -105 @ Carib [also available @ SkyBet and William Hill]
Garcia is also struggling to be the player that he once was, though at least did look like he had returned for three rounds last week. He finished one shot out of the playoff last week and lost in a playoff for this event last year. I wouldn't back him to win this event, but he won't need to in order to defeat Harrington in this matchup.

Man, Roland Thatcher is so far under the radar, I doubt any book had match-ups for him. My book thinks he is the son of some long ago prime minister. If you are going to give out information like that, at least give it out on a player some people have heard of.

The Barclays Tournament for Saturday, August 29th.

The Barclays Tournament for Saturday, August 29th.

Tournament Matchups for 18 holes for the Third Round only :

Four Units :

Justin Leonard over Robert Allenby @ + 125. Lost by 3.
The odds kept going up to the point I felt I couldn't pass it up, guess I should have.

Hunter Mahan over Phil Mickelson @ - 110. Won by 6.

Three Units :

Mike Weir over David Toms @ - 105. Lost by 1.
Weir catches green side bunker on the last hole to blow the push.

Zach Johnson over Stewart Cink @ - 115. Won by 4.

Two Units :

Sergio Garcia over Ernie Els @ - 115. Lost by 4.

Steve Stricker over Ian Poulter @ - 135. Won by 2.

One Unit :

Retief Goosen over Phil Mickelson @ + 100. Push.

Brandt Snedeker over Justin Rose @ - 110. Won by 2.

5 dimes usually has lines on everyone. I am taking the week off, so i didnt even check to see if there was a 3rd round line.

Roland is a pretty big name.. he was second on the nationwide and was playin reallly well until last years injury.

I appreciate all you do and have done for me and this board. The last thing I want to do is hurt your feelings. But, there is always a but, let's face it, Roland is just too obscure for most if not all bookmakers to line out for every round. Especially after shooting a 79 in round one. I would shake any bookies hand that had a round two line for Thatcher.

Official World Golf Rankings for Roland Thatcher----
2009--238
2008--303
2007--216
2006--481
2005--393
I think you get the idea of what I'm trying to say here.
