Brett Quigley(125/1) e.w @ GG
- - Quigley was on my card and in my write-up last week, and pros and cons continue this week (how about taking after his Uncle Dana and continuing on with an ironman run that will now extend for 7 weeks through what is surely the most draining event the sport has to offer, with a 36 hole Open qualifier tossed in for good measure? - and then winning the qualifier going away when winning doesn't matter, Sherlock) . . . Anyway, I was literally in the process of finishing my specific research on Quigley's prospects for this week, and before I moved on to the next name on my list, I went to check on how Monday's U.S. Open qualifying had gone, and the first useful link I happen to click on is this one from DTB in the Michelle Wie thread:
http://www.ghin.com/scoring/stroke.html Immediately, my shoulders slump over the impact of what my eyes see on the screen, and I curse what seems my inevitable fate of being four days too early AND three days too late - because on balance the evidence has to weigh in favor of going with a play that I was on the bubble over, which was then duly placed within minutes at Bet365 . . . and then I note a few hours later I could have had 125s with 1/5 for 1-6 at BetFred, an option I would always choose (insert appropriate curse here).
Padraig Harrington(25/1) e.w @ Sportingbet
- - Can you imagine Padraig putting in a few hours of putting practice now, and wondering if he should tweak his stance just a little wider still? The mind boggles at the thought . . . Anyway, I was of the opinion I witnessed a stretch of Irish intensity during the Masters to confirm Padraig had turned a corner on his season; the evidence since is somewhat supportive, and if so, he should be within hailing distance of the business end of this week's proceedings.
Chris DiMarco(125/1) e.w. @ GolfingGods
- - Last Wednesday, I contemplated tossing out a two word post in the Memorial thread to see what sort of response, if any, it would elicit from the crew: "Sean O'Hair???". Similarly, this Monday morning I was contemplating a two word post in the Westchester thread: "Chris DiMarco???". Speculation that appeals, here. :box2: And here:
http://www.dispatch.com/memorial/memorial.php?story=dispatch/2006/06/01/20060601-E6-03.html Noting a late development in the "pull the trigger" column on this one has to be THE marquee pairing with close pal Mickelson which is anything but an inconsequential angle, through Friday and beyond, for the potential to spark useful momentum or just the opposite . . . And tonight, the alternative two word post I feel most inclined to toss out: "Justin Leonard???".
Luke Donald(33/1) e.w @ 5dimes
- - I don't think Donald is a million miles away from a place or time when his game should be rounding into some brilliantly consistent form. Moreover, the demands of this mature Walter J. Travis design that are impressed upon my conciousness over many years, commended for years by European and PGA Tour members as a marvelous course for their U.S. Open preparations, should be to his liking:
