White Sox general manager Ken Williams said he wasn't waving a white flag when he traded James Baldwin to the Los Angeles Dodgers for 3 minor leaguers. It might be a black flag instead. Turns out CHicago expected to get pitcher Jon Berry, 23, as part of the deal. The Dodgers, however, sent them journeyman outfielder Jeff Barry, 32. "We were looking at a report on the pitcher and we didnt have one on the guy we got," Williams said. The Dodgers said Barry's name never came up and the mix-up was within the Chicago front office. The White Sox say they'll honor the deal.

IT was a sweltering night in Marietta, Ohio, but fans watching the AMerican Legion district tournament game between Neffs POst 77 and Maynard POst 666 on July 21 were treated to a steady breeze- from the whiffs of 58 batters.
Maynard lefty Trent Luyster, headed to Ohio State, struck out 25 and Neffs right-hander Derek Myers, going to Adrian College (MIch.) added 26 in Maynard's 15 inning 6-5 win. Legion rules limit pitchers to 12 innings.
