BASEBALL DIME LINE

Betting on sports is a numbers game. Those who get the best prices, or odds, generally win over the long run. In no sport is this more true, than in Baseball. If you plan on betting on baseball games, it's in your best interest to seek out sportsbooks that deal a Dime Line. Also known as a 10 cent line.

What is a Dime Line?

The term simply refers to the difference between the underdog price and the favorite price. For example, let's assume the New York Yankees are playing the Toronto Blue Jays in Yankee Stadium. Let's assume the Yankees are a -140 favorite in the game. If we were using a sportsbook that had a dime line, the price on the underdog Blue Jays would be +130. Technically, the price on the Yankees should read -1.40. Meaning you wager a dollar and forty cents to win one dollar on the Yanks. The price on the Blue Jays, +1.30 translates to betting a dollar to win a dollar and 30 cents. The difference between the favorite price and the underdog price is 10 cents. Or, a dime. Hence, a "Dime Line".

Some sportsbooks deal what is referred to as a 20 cent line, or a wide line. Still others, deal what is called a graduated line. Meaning it starts out as a 10 cent line, but increases as the price increases. If a favorite is -115, sportsbook with a graduated line would have +105 on the underdog. However, if they had a favorite as -180, they would likely have the underdog at +160 whereas the dime line book would have +170.

Let's take a look at an example from today's baseball lines that illustrates why you should be looking for a sportsbook with a dime line for baseball.

The game we'll look at is the Padres at the Giants. Lincecum is pitching for the Giants and Wolf for the Padres. A very popular sportsbook that has a 10 cent line has the Giants as a -121 favorite. Their price on the underdog is +111. Meanwhile, the sportsbook dealing a 20 cent line has the Giants -126 and the underdog padres +106. Let's look at them side by side.

10 cent line

Giants -121

Padres +111

20 cent line

Giants -126

Padres +106

As you can see, whether you bet on the underdog, or the favorite, you are getting a better deal at the sportsbook with a 10 cent line. A better deal by 5 cents in the line. Over the course of a long baseball season, if you're saving that kind of money every time you bet, it translates into money in your pockets instead of the sportsbooks. Simply, you win MORE when you win, and you lose LESS when you lose. Thin of it as grocery shopping and buying a gallon of milk for $3 a gallon at one store instead of $4 at another. Over the course of the year, you'll save a bunch of dough buying the $3 gallon.

I don't bet baseball that much, so I am not the right person to ask. Perhaps other madjackers that bet baseball will give you a list of books that offer ten cent lines.

Anyway with that being said, you can not go wrong with Betjamaica or 5dimes two of the best books on the planet.
