oh, in case you missed the top of the 9th & 10th, it was even worse.
2-2 game, braves get their leadoff hitter on. pinch runner stole 2nd. a rookie who has been in the majors for about a week at the plate. he's facing diaz, who has struggled recently, but still has some nasty stuff. obviously you gotta bunt the runner over to 3rd. nope, the runner on 2nd tried to steal 3rd. it was damn close, and no matter what the call on the field was, replay wasn't going to overturn it. unfortunately, the call was out. so the braves didn't score.
top of the 10th... the conventional wisdom is that you don't bunt the "ghost runner" over because you gotta play for multiple runs. NOPE. this time, the braves fucking bunted. successfully, so runner on 3rd with one out. and then the dumb continued. next batter... don't know if the batter missed the sign for the suicide squeeze, but the runner broke for home and the pitch was way up and outside. the batter pulled back his bunt attempt and the runner was easily thrown out.
so they didn't bunt when they should have and they bunted when they shouldn't have. and they wasted two excellent scoring opportunities in the 9th and 10th.
Laureano completely misplaying that fly ball with 2 outs was just the icing on the cake. *side note* i find it hilarious that he doesn't get an error for that. simply because he overran it so badly he didn't even get his glove on the ball.
