?MINNEAPOLIS (Ticker) -- Dan Haren again tries to extend his career-best winning streak to eight games Tuesday, when the Oakland Athletics continue a four-game series against the Minnesota Twins.
On Wednesday, Haren was in line for his first loss since May 26 at Tampa Bay before the A's rallied for a 5-4, 10-inning win over Cleveland. Haren allowed four runs and a career-high 12 hits in 5 1/3 innings.
Over his last 12 starts, Haren is 7-0 with a 4.00 ERA, and Oakland has won each time. The 24-year-old righthander will be making his first career start against the Twins.
The Twins counter with Joe Mays (5-6, 4-71). The 29-year-old righthander has struggled of late, going 0-3 in four starts since a win over Tampa Bay on July 3.
On Thursday, Mays surrendered six runs and 11 hits in 6 2/3 innings of a 6-3 road loss to the New York Yankees.
In Monday's series opener, Joe Blanton outdueled Johan Santana as the A's edged the Twins, 2-1. It was Santana's first loss in the second half of a season since July 23, 2003, ending a string of 24 straight wins after the All-Star break.
Scott Hatteberg's single drove in the go-ahead run in the seventh inning for Oakland, which has won 12 of its last 13 games and is a major league-best 42-14 since May 30.
