Going to have fun with this thread over summer...

I'm going to have a crack at the NZTAB and their new cricket bookmaker, former NZ skipper Ken Rutherford

Was a big fan of Rudders as a player; a good Kiwi bloke to boot. Now we'll see what he's like setting the odds

Already have wagered on the top NZ bat during the 3-test series v Aus; with one unit on Craig McMillan at $6.75 (now $7) and half-unit on Chris Cairns at $12 (now $6

)

With the first test starting in Brisbane today, here's what I'm on (all for one unit):

Aus high bat 1st innings: Ponting $4.50
M Waugh $5.50

Head-to-head high bat 1st inn: Fleming $1.75 o Sinclair
Ponting $1.85 o Hayden

Series margin: Aus 2-0; $3.00

Most runs in series: Ponting $4.50
J Langer $9

Already played:

Most NZ runs in series: C McMillan $6.75
C Cairns $12 (.5 unit)

There has been plenty of hype over here about the Australia vs NZ cricket series starting today in Brisbane.

The local media is giving the NZ side some chance although the bookies are not so sure offering up to $10 for them to win the 1st test.

I did have a laugh when I read Ken Rutherford is now working for the NZ Tab !!

Rd 1 quite clearly to Rudders

Ponting only just missed pipping Hayden's total by 132 runs

while Waugh produced a duck

Stroke of good fortune though with Langer's ton setting him up nicely for the series total after getting the benefit of non-doubt in the first over when plumb lbw - bloody Aussie umpires

Great day's play with NZ fighting back off the ropes in the last session.

Adding another unit to the Fleming play today (to win 2 units). Sinclair's test avg is better but only because of 2 double tons, while Flem has 29 half-centuries and just 2 tons

Sinclair's technique problems were badly exposed by the Aussies in the last series and I think they are confident of doing that again.

Got cleaned out by Rudders in the first test match ups

However, the futures bets look good after strong showings with the bat by Langer, Macca and Cairns and the draw was good for me too - Aus 2-0 now at $1.55.

Have two for the opening day of the 2nd test in Hobart.

Most runs:

Ponting $1.80 o M Waugh - backing the local boy.

Fleming $1.85 o Astle (x 2 units) - Flem may only have 2 tons but usually gets a start; Astle made runs in both innings in Brisbane but should have been out 5 times before 20 in the 1st innings and the Aus bowlers will be gunning for him here.

Second test was much better

Went 3-0 on matchups to leave me 3-5 for the series and the futures continued to play out strongly.

Looked at hedging for the final test but will sit with what I have already.

In the top NZ runscorer category, five players are within 15 runs of each other - Fleming leading with 128 (now $3.60) down to Richardson on 113 ($6). I'll be cheering Macca (had 1 units at $6.75, now $3.80 with 123 runs) and Cairns (half unit at $12, now $4.25 with 124 runs).

In the top scorer for the series, Langer (245 runs) is now equal fave at $2.75 with Hayden (240). Hoping for one more good display on his home track, while Ponting is a good chance still with 194 runs.

May have a head-to-head or 2 on the first innings tallies, unfortunately the rain at Hobart (and Brisbane) killed the 2-0 series result wager.

Taking a guy with a test average of 51.43 versus a test debutant who has never opened in 1st class cricket.

Fleming $1.80 o Astle $1.90 (2 units)

Taking the in-form skipper over a player suspect on bouncy wickets.

Langer $1.90 v Hayden $1.80 (2 units)

Two very much in-form openers but will take the better price with the home team man who has a ton in each of his last three tests.

Ponting $1.80 o M Waugh $1.90 (3 units)

Waugh hopelessly out of touch v a batsman who made an unbeaten 150 in his previous test innings.
