The New York Red Bulls supposedly has offered has-been pretty boy David Beckham US$100 million to come to the MLS. I'm sure he would stand out on some skill levels, but there is no way he can carry a team the way a 100m professional is expected to. Is this a purely moronic move or do they really think he will have the same marketability off the field that he has shown elsewhere in the world (which is at least 80% due to his marriage to a spice girl)?

He hasn't decided yet. Personally, I don't think he will go because he loves attention more than money and he won't get enough of that in North America.

I heard this on a quick report. Anything anyone can add or clarify is welcomed.

I know zip about mls soccer. nada. i just know tony meola sucked as a kicker in the nfl.

i'm not doubting your report in the least, i just find it utterly impossible for a mls soccer team to have the capital to offer 100 million to anyone.

donovan was the top mls salary last year at $900,000 ( i googled it, i had no idea). thats not even a million and you are going to offer beckham 100 million? lol. put that franchise in bankruptcy court next year. adu made 550,000 and some guy named eddie johnson (again i know nothing) made 875,000.

again, no disrespect and not questioning you at all, i just think there is no way in hell a mls soccer team in a league where no player makes 1 million is going to offer anyone 100 million.

redbull owners have a ton of$$ and are ready to spend it.
those players you mentioned have nothing on beckham...even with the cap in the mls it doesnt matter..if becks signs it will be for 500 grand and a 99million dollar endorsment deal with redbull the drink,thats how they go around the cap.
besides the name becks is not worth more than 5mil a year ,this will help short term but on the field not worth it.
they already offerd ronaldo 99mill and he declined that to would be a horrible signing...theyre looking for star power,these guys would help but at that price its just stupid,ronaldino the best player in the world in his prime doesnt even make 100 mil and theyt want to sign these has beens at that price.

Found it;

I know what you mean BDB but the owner (Philip Anschutz) must be some tycoon with more money than brains. A few months ago they offered Ronaldo $120 million for 10 years.

The MLS is working on allowing some kind of 'David Beckham exception' rule that would allow each MLS club to sign a high-profile and relatively high-priced player without having him count toward the salary cap.

i want to see a good league here,spending on players ,but these old fuks are way past their primes DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
man u's ronaldo yes offer him 100mil and he might jump at it...zidane playmaker will do good,henry will be lethal here,,they are trying to get these huge names that americans know..get henry or drogba and people around here that are somewhat intrested will know who they are very fast and they would produce big time...so would becks here but not like henry or drogba would .wayne rooney would also be a good fit here...im just dreaming i guess b/c these guys make close to that anyway and get to play at the highest levels overseas.
