Bush and Kerry campaigned as Democratic vice presidential candidate John Edwards (news - web sites) reported income of almost $39 million over the decade ending in 2003. Partial tax returns showed Edwards and his wife paid 34.8 percent of their income in taxes during the 10-year span, a total of $13.2 million. They paid 8.6 percent of their income to charity

I will say Edwards was quite charitable especially compared to Mr Compassionate (Kerry) who until he married his 2nd meal ticket gave little and sometimes nothing to charity.
However appears he took advatage of a few loopholes to get off at 34% ---thought he might have thrown in some extra since he is so adamant that the rich don't pay their share--
and what about ole scrooge Cheney who you can read about in every liberal publication about his 7.8 million windfall from Haliburton in stock options in 2000.What they somehow fail to mention is he donated the ENTIRE amount to charity.
