Alright lets see how many Coll. Football Fans we can piss off.

I've traveled to a lot of stadiums in different conferences across the nation, but not that many west of the Colorado, So my opinion is based upon what I can see via national football coverage.

Best college football environment: tailgating, pregame, facility, fans, crowd noise, setting, etc.

SEC................UGA...Athens/LSU...Baton Rouge toss-up

ACC...............VaTech...Blacksburg

BIG TEN.........Penn St...State College

BIG 12...........Texas A & M....College Station

BIG EAST......WVU.....Morgantown

PAC TEN.......Oregon....Eugene

CON USA......Southern MIss....Hattiesburg

Alright, lets hear it!!!

Neyland Stadium is awesome and one loud place, but being right in the middle of the city doesn't give it that campus appeal. However its really nice down on the river. Grove is a fun place, just not as wild as Death Valley or Athens.

I am biased but AM is quite overrated. They havent even sold out a non-Texas home game in more than 2 years. The whole town is a dump. Perhaps one can respect their traditions (as silly as many of them might be) but that doesnt strike me as "atmosphere." And I would certainly contend there is more to it than inside the stadium.

In CUSA, perhaps nationally, the clear answer is Army. In the Big 12, none are too impressive so perhaps AM in default. Just depends on the game - there is nothing like UT-OU but of course that is neutral site.

I am curious to why OU vs Texas is at a neutral site?

I see that you are a Texas fan. I liked the new coaching additions Texas brought in this off-season. How are the new coaches working out so far? Can you tell any difference?

...sorry, Scott, but I didn't see USC in that list.... However, I did see five (5) SEC school s out of ten (10).... :142lmao:

I agree the SEC conf. have some of the most passionate fans in the nation. I think that is great! Hopefully one day I can attend a game in the south. USC did average around 78,000 last year which is pretty damn good considering USC plays in Los Angeles and has another big program across town! I don't think any of these teams have a DIV 1a team located in the same city they play in.

Texas-Ou has always been played in Dallas. Of course it udes to be a non-conference game, and Dallas is halfway between Norman and Austin. OU has frequently discussed moving to home-home but dont see it happening.

Who knows if the changes will help - they havent played OU yet. From the scuttlebutt Tomey has had a great influence. Robinson is more aggressive which the team needs, but I am concerned he is forcing a style on players who dont necessarily fit it.

There are some bigger stadiums in the Big Ten, but their fans are just not as passionate about their teams as southern schools. People around these parts are still pissed about Peyton's screwing of the Heisman, and I'm in Virginia.

To quote the famous Lewis Grizzard "I went to see Michigan and Ohio State play their annual football game....I was not impressed!! Kinda reminded me of two pigs fighting over a turnip, who cares!"

As a huge Iowa Hawkeye fan that has traveled to quite a few road games, here is how I'd rank the Big-10 as far as tailgating goes. These are for the places I've been to, as I've never been to Indiana, Purdue or Michigan State for a game.

1. Michigan
2. IOWA
3. Ohio State
4. Penn State
5. Wisconsin
3 way tie for last: Illinois, Northwestern and Minnesota.

My sister went to school in Indiana, she said watching a football game there was like watching paint dry. Everyone was waiting for the grass to die so basketball season would start. She said the people of Iowa were great when they went there for a ballgame...invited her eat BQ Ribs, grilled corn, etc. She said they were very loyal fans.
