Leading Online Sportsbook Offers Odds On Teams Reaching NFL Playoffs

WILLEMSTAD, CURACAO (November 1, 2006)?Now that the NFL season has hit the midway point, the contenders have separated themselves from the pretenders and many teams are already looking ahead to the postseason. With several teams remaining in the playoff hunt, today PinnacleSports.com announced odds on several NFL teams reaching the playoffs this season. The largest sports betting site on the Internet, PinnacleSports.com has examined the current NFL landscape and created yes/no betting propositions on whether more than half of the league?s teams will make the playoffs.

The current leader in the AFC North, the Baltimore Ravens open as overwhelming favorites to qualify for the postseason at -330 (i.e., win $100 for every $330 bet). Co-leaders in the AFC West, San Diego (-460) and Denver (-380) certainly look like playoff-bound teams barring any second half collapses. Despite having the league?s toughest schedule, the New York Giants (-497) have jumped to the front of the NFC East and are poised to reach the postseason for the second straight season. PinnacleSports.com also lists the reigning NFC Champion Seattle Seahawks as odds-on favorites for the playoffs at -297, while Atlanta (-255), Dallas (-155) and Minnesota (-122) also appear to have the odds in their favor. The best story in sports this year is taking place in New Orleans, where the Saints have opened by winning five of their first seven games and are now -126 favorites to make the playoffs for the first time since 2000. Meanwhile, the odds that the league?s top three teams (Indianapolis, Chicago and New England) will all reach the playoffs are listed as a huge -1700 favorite.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are a number of NFL teams whose playoff hopes are dwindling. With only two wins to start the season, PinnacleSports.com lists the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers as long shots to reach the playoffs at +620 (i.e., win $620 for every $100 bet). Although the New York Jets have a fairly easy remaining schedule, the oddsmakers believe they have slim playoff chances, listing the Jets at +1120 to reach the postseason in Eric Mangini?s first year at the helm. Trendy Super Bowl picks in the pre-season, Cincinnati (+157) and Carolina (+260) have gotten off to mediocre starts and are seeing their playoff chances quickly fading. Other teams PinnacleSports.com considers postseason underdogs include: Philadelphia (+128), Jacksonville (+140), St. Louis (+190), Kansas City (+297) and Green Bay (+1688).

PinnacleSports.com also has Divisional, AFC & NFC Championship and Super Bowl XLI odds available along with several other unique betting propositions. Currently, the undefeated Chicago Bears are slight Super Bowl favorites at +386, followed by the Indianapolis Colts (+460) and New England Patriots (+616). The oddsmakers have also handicapped the chances of the Bears and Colts finishing the season undefeated, listing both teams as long shots to join the 1972 Dolphins unblemished record at +900 and +1200, respectively.
