Internet maverick MySpace.com has found its way into news again recently, but not for the reason they would like. It would appear that net nemesis and fading net superstar Friendster.com has recently received a patent related to searching for people online based on their personal spec?s and is currently waiting for another similar patent to be approved.

As a result of the passing of said patent, Friendster Inc. now has the hard decision to make on whether or not to pursue legal action against any number of sites that use similar technology, MySpace.com being the main purveyor or said technology.

Online community addicts see these kinds of patents are completely useless, counter productive and utterly pointless, though we can almost guarantee that Friendster will do as so many other patent holders have done and sue as many companies for patent infringement as is possible. MySpace is certainly one of the top names on that list of targets. These cases seem to have a lot to do with the, ?the higher the company value, the more likely they are to settle for a ton of money? line of thought.
