NCAA HOOPS:
WAKE FOREST #3 (15-1)
CINCINNATI #20 (14-2)
Two top programs square off, and are both coming off of losses which should see them fighting mad. Cincinnati coach Bob Huggins will have the Bearcats wired after losing to Louisville 69-66 while shooting an embarrassing 17-30 from the charity stripe. Top twenty teams don?t lose games like that and Huggins will remind them I am sure! This Demon Deacon squad is about as good as it gets both in star power and depth but got caught looking ahead and being beaten by unheralded Florida St. Tuesday night 91-83 in overtime.
DUKE (#4) (12-0)
FLORIDA ST. 9-8
The Duke Boys are one of only four undefeated teams left, they score like an NBA team and are led by sniper J.J. Redick (21 ppg), whirling dervish point guard Daniel Ewing (16.8ppg, 4.2ast, 2.7stl) and solid as a rock Sheldon Williams (14.8ppg, 11.5reb, 4blk). So what makes Florida St. think they can win? Well the ?Noles? are coming off a big time win against Wake Forest and are hoping the hot shooting of Von Wafer (who scored 30 against the Demon Deacons) can carry over.
PITT #21 (12-2)
U CONN #16 (11-3)
Pitt will be in for their first true test of the year as they play at U Conn. Their best showing up till now was a three point win at home over an average Seton Hall team so who knows what they are capable of. We will find out when they run into the Huskies who are extremely tough at home. Their frontcourt is ridiculous as Josh Boone is averaging a double-double (16.1ppg, 10reb), Charlie Villanueva is close (12.2ppg, 8.3reb), but their backcourt is suspect and have already lost once this season at home to Boston College.
NFL:
FALCONS
EAGLES -4 ? TOTAL 41
Will this be the year that the Eagles make it to the Super Bowl, or will the championship jinx continue? Contradictions abound here as super slick Michael Vick and the Falcons will be forced to play out of their element in the cold, on frosty footing. T.J. Duckett may have a big game but Jeremiah Trotter and the Eagle defense will be waiting for him and may be able to get away with playing eight in the box against a questionable passing attack. That being said the Eagles seem to find a way to give this game away every year and who better than the one man gang Michael Vick to steal a trip to Jacksonville in February?
PATRIOTS -2 ? TOTAL 36
STEELERS
Many Steelers fans are outraged that they are underdogs at home. Pittsburgh won the first match up between these two convincingly 34-20. The odds makers are factoring in the fact that the ?Pats? were without Corey Dillon and two starting offensive linemen and were never able to establish any type of running game which is especially important for a balanced team such as New England. The Steelers will remind you that they too were without three starters on defense. What?s a fan to do? Follow your hunch and tune in Sunday!!!
