betED.com offers Matchup Bets for Kentucky Derby
The Run for the Roses takes place this weekend and betED.com is featuring Matchup Betting for the full field of 20 thoroughbreds.
In addition to straight bets, Matchup Bets give Horse-Racing Betting fans a chance to select a pair of horses and wager on which will finish faster in the 134th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
For example, bettors can wager on how one of the top three favorites ? Big Brown, Colonel John or Pyro ? will fare against the fourth favored horse, Adriano.
betED.com has Florida Derby winner Big Brown as a +225 favorite to win outright at Churchill Downs, and -625 to beat Adriano, which is a +325 underdog in that matchup.
Colonel John is a -475 favorite against Adriano, while Pyro is -450. Adriano is a +275 and +250 underdog against Colonel John and Pyro, respectively.
Big Brown will be trying to become the first thoroughbred since Regret to win the Derby with just three starts. Regret accomplished that feat in 1915. But Big Brown, trained by Richard Dutrow Jr., has won all three starts by a total of 29 lengths.
Colonel John, winner of the Santa Anita Derby on April 5, is at +425 odds to win the Derby. Colonel John won the 71st running of the Santa Anita by just half a length but ran the final three-eighths of a mile in 35 1/5 seconds. The son of two-time Breeders? Cup Classic winner Tiznow, Colonel John is trained by Eoin Harty.
Big Brown and Colonel John are ranked 1-2 in the final Top 10 list released before the Derby by The Associated Press.
Pyro, who was considered by some observers to be the favorite until finishing 10th in the Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland on April 12, is +575 to win.
