There?s not much question that David Beckham?s arrival in Major League Soccer will increase interest, including wagering, in the sport in North America.
But why wait until Beckham makes his debut with the MLS Los Angeles Galaxy in the spring? You can place a bet on Beckham right now at www.betED.com
The online wagering website has odds on two different Prop bets involving the British soccer star.
The first is pretty straightforward: How many goals will Beckham score in his 1st season? 11 or more (+200); 6-10 (-200); 5 or less (+200).
The other requires a bit more thinking: What will happen in Beckham?s MLS regular-season debut? Beckham will score a hat trick (+2500); Beckham will score on a free kick (+500); Beckham will receive a yellow card (+900); Beckham will be sent off (+2500); Beckham will score the game winning goal (+400); Beckham will score (at least 1 goal) (+120); Beckham will commit a penalty (+1000); Beckham will have a penalty committed against him (+400); Beckham will score on a corner kick (+950); Beckham will be forced out by injury (+900).
Several MLS teams have seen spikes in season-ticket sales since Beckham announced his transfer to the Galaxy last week ? and the bulk of the schedule hasn't even been released.
The Galaxy said this week it had sold 5,000 season tickets since Thursday while the expansion Toronto FC said it sold 2,600 of its 10,000 season tickets since the announcement.
"The announcement of David Beckham's signing to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy this summer has generated more interest in Major League Soccer than any other event in league history," MLS commissioner Don Garber said Tuesday.
"We didn't sign David to sell tickets and jerseys. He was signed because he's a world-class soccer player."
Beckham said he would join the Galaxy after his contract with Real Madrid expires June 30, but that was clouded by the statement from Madrid manager Fabio Capello, who said Beckham would train ? but no longer play ? for the team.
If Madrid releases him early, Beckham might be available when the Galaxy begin their season April 8 at the defending champion Houston Dynamo. Los Angeles plays its first home game four days later against the New York Red Bulls.
