Wednesday MLB Picks
Most sportsbook sharps have football on the brain right now, but there are two crucial playoff seeds left to determine in Major League Baseball. Can the Braves and Twins keep pushing the Rockies and Tigers in their respective Leagues? Let's make some MLB picks for Atlanta and Minnesota's Wednesday games.
Minnesota Twins @ Detroit Tigers
Wednesday, September 30, 7:05 p.m. ET
Carl Pavano (13-11, 4.86) vs Eddie Bonine (0-1, 4.60)
It's always tough to make online sports betting picks late in the year when unknowns like Eddie Bonine get starts. He's pitched somewhat decently, allowing three runs or fewer in each of this three starts this season. Then again, he's allowed seven homers in just 29.1 innings. The righty may serve up some nice muffins to Joe Mauer and/or Justin Morneau.
Carl Pavano gives the Twins an excellent chance to win Wednesday night; he's 4-0 already against the Tigers this season. He has a 1.69 ERA against them, just one walk and no homers allowed over 37.1 innings. That's beyond dominant, so it's smart to pick Minnesota.
recommend: Twins
Florida Marlins @ Atlanta Braves
Wednesday, September 30, 7;10 p.m. ET
Ricky Nolasco (12-9, 5.28) vs Javier Vazquez (15-8, 2.83)
You never really know what you get with the frustrating Ricky Nolasco. He has good strikeout stuff and can dominate games yet he also gets rocked every now and then and serves up lots of homers. He struggles a bit against the Braves, who hit .319 off him so far this season in 17.1 innings. He simply can't get Brian McCann or Chipper Jones out. McCann bats .357 with four homers and 11 RBI in 28 at bats against Nolasco while Jones hits .478 with four homers and nine RBI in 23 at-bats.
Javier Vazquez is smack in the middle of perhaps his best Major-League season, sporting a 4-0 record and 1.93 ERA this month. He's having the season Johan Santana was supposed to have, striking out tons of guys and allowing very few baserunners. The Marlins have played him extremely tough this season, holding him winless and scoring 16 runs on him in 25.1 innings, but he's pitching so well right now that he can overcome his track record.
Betonline recommend: Braves
