BETTING: Woods big favorite to take title
Tiger minus-360; field at plus-300
It's not too late to wager on Tiger Woods to win the PGA Championship. The deadline to bet Woods at a good price has passed, however.
With a lead going into the final round of a major, Woods never has lost. Despite losing half his lead in Saturday's third round, Woods remains a big favorite to claim his first major title of the year.
The Las Vegas Hilton sports book, which offers adjusted odds after each round, posted Woods as a minus-360 favorite to win today. The rest of the field is plus-300.
Woods, who finished the third round at 8-under 208, holds a two-stroke lead over Padraig Harrington and Y.E. Yang. Woods led by four after two rounds and was a minus-450 favorite at that point.
"You're basically looking at Yang and Harrington, and after that it drops off," Hilton golf oddsmaker Jeff Sherman said. "A few years ago, Tiger and Yang played in the final round of a tournament and Yang beat him. It would take a perfect round by Harrington and nothing by Tiger."
Harrington is a major champion with the experience needed to outduel Woods. Yang, a 37-year-old from South Korea, faces the pressure of being paired with Woods today. Yang did beat Woods at the HSBC Champions in China in 2006.
Before the tournament, Sherman picked Yang as a long-shot player capable of winning. Yang was getting about 125-1 odds at some offshore books.
U.S. Open champ Lucas Glover and Henrik Stenson are tied for fourth at four shots back, and Ernie Els trails by five shots.
The Hilton took a lot of action on Woods at a price of plus-180 before the PGA, but that value is long gone.
"The last day we had him at 9-5, and that's when the late money came in on Tiger," Sherman said.
Woods is a minus-240 favorite over Harrington in one of 10 matchups the Hilton posted for the final round.
