Bettors give thanks for NFL triple-header
Nov. 20, 2007
It?s Thanksgiving and that means one thing for football bettors ? a triple-header of NFL games.
The highlight of this year?s holiday kick off on Thursday is the Green Bay Packers visiting the Detroit Lions in a clash of NFC North rivals. But the other matchups served up by the NFL this Thanksgiving could end up being turkeys, with the hard-charging Dallas Cowboys hosting the hapless New York Jets, and the defending Super Bowl champion Indianapolis Colts visiting the lowly Atlanta Falcons.
Bet the NFL?s Thanksgiving Day games at betED.com, which has the Packers as 3?-point favorites over the Lions, the Cowboys a 14-point favorite against the Jets, and the Colts 11?-point favorites over the Falcons.
To get things going on Thursday, Green Bay (9-1 SU) puts its 8-1-1 ATS record on the line against divisional rival Detroit (6-4 SU, 5-4-1 ATS). The Packers have beaten the Lions 11 of 13 times SU, but are just 2-8 ATS on the road against them.
Last Sunday, the Packers beat the Carolina Panthers 31-17 as a 10-point favorite for their fifth-straight win, while the Lions lost to the New York Giants 16-10 as a 2.5-point underdog.
The teams have polar-opposite divisional records: Green Bay is 7-3 SU, Detroit?s 3-7 SU.
The Jets (2-8 SU, 3-6-1 ATS) head into Dallas after pulling off one of the bigger upsets of the season last week with a 19-16 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers as a 9.5-point underdog. The Cowboys (9-1 SU, 7-3 ATS) beat the Washington Redskins 28-23 as an 11-point favorite in Week 11.
The Jets are 0-5 SU and 1-4 ATS in their past five games on the road.
In the final game of the day, the banged-up Colts (8-2 SU, 6-4 ATS) will welcome a gift game against the Falcons (3-7 SU, 6-4 ATS), who have lost seven of their past nine games at home.
The Colts limped past Kansas City 13-10 as a 15-point favorite last week, while the Falcons lost to Tampa Bay 31-7 as a 3-point underdog.
The Under is 5-0 in Indianapolis's past five games, and 5-1 in Atlanta's past six games.
