Bettors Lean To NCAA Favorites

Well, the second week of the college football schedule sure started with fireworks didn't it?

Ranked No. 24 in the polls, Steve Spurrier and the South Carolina Gamecocks headed into Vanderbilt listed as 9.5-point road favorites. But if you played the fav in this one, you would've been burned, as Vandy pulled off the upset beating the old ball coach and his Gamecocks 24-17.

There will likely be a few more interesting results when the smoke clears on Saturday.

People are questioning Ohio State University head coach Jim Tressel's decision to play RB Chris "Beanie" Wells late in a 43-0 victory over Youngstown State after the RB sustained a foot injury.

According to ESPN, "Beanie" didn't break any bones, hasn't practiced all week, was seen wearing a protective boot and won't see any action this week against the Ohio Bobcats.

Doesn't seem to matter to the linesmakers though; they have the Ohio State Buckeyes listed as a 33.5-point favorite.

Chris Wells' absence might be a blessing though as Ohio State has a very big game against the USC Trojans the week after?which could alter the rankings?a healthy "Beanie" will be crucial for a victory by the Buckeyes.

Maybe laying 33.5 points might be a little too much playing without Wells and with a huge game next week?could be a lookahead situation.

There was a time when the Miami Hurricanes were one of the top teams in college football but not so much lately.

This week the 'Canes will take on the team considered by many to be the contemporary best team from the Sunshine State?the Florida Gators.

The Gators have a Heisman hopeful in QB Tim Tebow, although is Tebow really a Heisman hopeful? He took the honor last year.

At any rate, Tebow is listed at +250 to repeat as Heisman Trophy winner at SPORTSBETTING.COM.

Although the Gators are the Florida team that gets all the attention these days, the Hurricanes have been profitable against them recently, going 4-0 straight up and 3-1 against the spread since 2001.

Bettors seem to split down the middle, as the big line could be scaring people away, with only 51% of the public wagering on the Florida Gators, who are listed as 22.5-point faves.

The current top team of the ACC's Atlantic and Coastal divisions, Boston College and Georgia Tech respectively, will battle each other this week with Boston College favored by a TD.

BC is seeing 68% of the betting volume.

Good luck on all the games.

Baseball Playoffs

It's been a long season but the MLB playoff races are heating up.

This weekend will see a key series in the NL West as the first place Arizona Diamondbacks play the second place L.A. Dodgers at Chavez Ravine.

It's been tight between the two teams with the D-backs holding the slight edge against the Dodgers, taking 11 out of the last 20 games.

Dan Haren takes the mound for Arizona and Derek Lowe for Los Angeles and the Dodgers are favored at ?133.

It should be a great weekend for pigskin with the start of the NFL and Week 2 of NCAA football?stretch drive baseball will be a nice complement too.

Enjoy your weekend.
