Saw this rather large spider (about 2") in our yard today. I thought maybe it was poisonous from the coloring but it appears they aren't. It's a black and yellow argiope, also known as the writing spider because the zigzag you can see in their web. Anyways, they were just high quality pics thought I'd share-

You're lucky he didn't lunge for your throat when you were taking the pic.

Few things on earth I hate more than spiders. Luckily for me, we get some huge-ass wolf spiders in the area I live in. :sadwave: In fact, a couple of days ago I had to kill one that got into the house through the fireplace. I shit you not, from top to bottom it was close to the length of a dollar bill. I was about to just burn the house down rather than have to deal with that leviathan. :142smilie

I was working in my mother in law's yard Sunday and saw a couple of these in her flowers.

No harm and probably eat a decent amount of insects... :0074

Nice pics Saint.

Whatcha got there is an Argiope. As mentioned, they don't bother people, but eat alot of bugs and things that can harm people. You want them around!

I've seen 'em in Texas eating lizards and birds!

Camel spiders are very scary when you turn over a rock and they rotate those spinning jaws in your face! I've seen one in New Mexico saw the head off a lizard in a split second! But the ones in US are too small to bite you, unlike the big bad boys in Middle East.

Some soldiers over there will keep them as pets, or put them in battles with scorpions and take bets. Most every desert war there has produced an eventual famous arachnologist...
