Big Mo
I'm trying to find the best deal possible on a new big screen. I am willing to spend between 1500 and 3000 for the right tv. I want to go as big as possible within that price range, but also get a high quality set. I was looking at the Panasonic 61" LCD that was around 23-2500 last week. I was thinking that prices will drop this month because of excess merchandise after the super bowl and I think that Feb is the last month of the model year for tv's. Any input on this would be great, I don't want to shell out big money and a. find out it is a POS or B. see it on sale for $500 less the next week.

I've done a lot of research

I've done a lot of research

on this, as I just bought a new TV.. read up a lot and went and looked at a lot of them...

To me, the best TV's out there right now are the 1080P TV's by Sony....

The 50 inch SXRD Wega (model KDSR-50XBR1) is absolutely stunning.. nothing can hold a candle to it... it is about $3K- you may be able to get it for less...

You can do further research at AVSForum.com - go to the rear projection displays area....

Another good site is:

shopzilla.com

they shop and compare over 300 stores

Friend of mine just bought a DLP 52 inch LG brand for $1995 from Best Buy. DLP does not matter much on brand as Texas Instruments owns the DLP technology. This is a good a deal as I have seen and I have done my share of research. It is an unbelievable picture and the shelf life of the DLP is longer than the LCD and Plasma from what I am hearing.

Good luck in your search, there is so much to learn but the rewards are worth it with the new TV!

DOn't understand the shelf life reasoning between LCD and DLP?

DLP you have to replace bulbs....any Plasma or LCD is going to last at least 6-7 yrs ...and most people will upgrade by then anyways. All the burnout worries of plasmas are associated with the older generations. The new plasma's have a life comparable to that of an older CRT version. Too much hype and not the real story imo

Hi Pat,

Are you familiar with The Costco warranty? I know I sound like a broken record on this site, but Costco has a return policy with no time limit. Last week I returned a Cannon Digital camera after using it for 3 years, no questions asked. I wouldn't buy a TV anywhere else.

:yup :yup would go nowhere else except Costco on big ticket purchases like this one. I will buy a brand new 60 inch TV there sometime next month, will most likely be by SONY.
