Jefferson City, Mo. ? Unless you're living under a rock, you can't help but notice all of the painted rocks throughout Jefferson City. Facebook is flooded with pictures, as kids and adults post their findings. The fun started with a Facebook group called JC Rocks.
The concept is simple, "You just paint rocks and put them around town for people to find," JC Rocks organizer Charity Blair said.
And the best part, "Finding them!" a young painter said with excitement.
Charity explained what happens after a painted rock is found, "You can either leave them, or you can keep them. If you keep them, you have to replace them with ones that you've painted."
Some spend a lot of time painting their rocks., "Um maybe like 5 hours or something," a young painter said.
"I picture something in my mind and I start painting it."
From the park, to downtown, to area businesses, rocks are showing up just about anywhere outdoors.
"There was one at Sno Biz."
"We found a heart one with black inside of it."
The JC Rock Group started out for kids, but that quickly changed, "I think it's become more of a family kind of thing," Charity said.
Painting the rocks has encouraged children to think of others, "I think about the people who are going to find it and what they will feel like when they find it," a young painter said.
The group is growing by leaps and bounds. Within a week, the Facebook page went from 4,000 members to more than 7,000. JC Rocks says to keep painted rocks outside, not inside businesses. For more information or to join the group, click the Facebook link here
