foreseeable result from a legal perspective. women sue cosby, then schedule his deposition. cosby asserts his fifth amendment privilege, saying his answers to deposition questions would cause him to incriminate himself, in contravention of his fifth amendment rights. women's lawyers go to district attorney, persuade him to state he will not prosecute cosby, effectively immunizing his from prosecution so that he can no longer face criminal sanctions. cosby is forced to testify at a deposition, some of his answers are incriminating, and years later, a new district attorney, facing reelection, decides not to honor the agreement and prosecute cosby anyway, actually using cosby's incrininating answers, that were compelled by court order, to convict and imprison him.
constitutional violations don't get much more blatant than this. haven't read the decision yet, i'm baffled how the prosecutor ever got a trial judge to go along with this.
