I took these pictures the other day. I love wildlife, and I usually know most birds and animals. I knew this one was a dove, but it was eating bread in a fast food parking lot. Dove do not eat bread; at least mourning doves do not. Pigeons do, but this bird was too small to be a pigeon. I'll post the answer later if anybody cares. There is a picture of the bird in question with a blackbird (grackle) for size comparison.

It's a Eurasian Collared Dove. A species native to Europe and Asia that was introduced by mistake to the Bahamas in the 70s. A hurricane brought some birds to Florida in 1985, and the species has flourished and spread over the whole country accept the northeast in the last 30 years. Pretty amazing! It is an invasive species just like the pigeon, Starling, and English Sparrow. Cool history I thought. It can be identified by the "collar" on the neck and the squared off tail.

Not doves.

I was referring to the dove in this picture. Open season year around many states. Some states just during mourning dove season but does not go against your bag limit.

I'm not proposing that; it just shows that the F&W guys don't care if this bird goes extinct in the USA, and they are encouraging U to kill them.
