All hype---better conditioned? Using a nutritionist?? Save the extra cash and keep rolling into the ring depending on talent...GSP made this guy look like a puninoff the street!!
Looks like he is crying as GSP pounds him with the ground and pound!! It's over!!

To help clarify things, what would happen if GSP moved up a weight class to take on Rampage, Machida, Griffin, or Evans? Let me help you out.....GSP would look like Penn just did. If you think any differently, you're living in lala land.

Very bad example mate.
All the guys you mentioned are 2 weight classes above GSP.

Not to jump on the bash wagon , but come on , this fight was for dana white and the ufc. Kudos to GSP, looked great and was obviously in tip top shape, which is a testament to penn's ability. He's got a 20 lb natural advantage on Penn, and he used it! You obviously have never wrestled!

I would too. GSP is a great fighter, but the mythical proportions of him are blown out of proportion. Anderson would negate the strength that GSP has over his fellow divisional opponents, and we know he'll out strike him.

I don't see why there's all the hate on BJ Penn. He's a great fighter who's confident in himself. I don't think there's a single great fighter who doesn't believe in themselves at the highest level.

gsp`s the bigger man...but this isn`t the first time we`ve seen penn gas early in a fight...

i said this on here before and i absolutely stand by it....cardio(or lack thereof)is in large part a result of your genetics...

like hand and foot speed and reflexes....you can tweek it...make it a little better....but if it isn`t on par with some other athletes...if you just don`t have good cardio, you`re shit out of luck....

penn`s one of those guys....

if you can`t run fast, you can train till the cows come home...it ain`t changing that...ditto hand speed and reflexes...

can you improve a little?...sure...but vs a world class athlete with naturally superior cardio, theres a good chance you`ll get outlasted..

i could stay in the gym 24-7 for a year and i still couldn`t get punches off like floyd mayweather or roy jones....

some guys are excellent long distance runners...some aren`t...

it is what it is...penn`s had this problem his whole career...

he was stuffing those takedowns in the first round...he was right in it...but after that he was done...he slowed down,st. pierre kept the pressure on...

he had cardio issues before...and he`ll have them again in a long hard fight...

doesn`t mean he`s still not an excellent lightweight fighter....

btw...i`ll take kenny florian or diego sanchez at lightweight vs penn if and when those fights take place...and hopefully get nice odds....

When it comes down to it, BJ Penn didnt come to fight last night...... He didnt come out swinging like he always does, his guard was passed like butter (very rare) and on multiple occasions... He only attempted one or two sweeps, which, with his jiu jitsu, is just odd. It makes me think he's been ignoring his ground game b/c his success in grappling came so quickly for him.

He was broken, and i never thought i would see that again from him. I expected him to come out swinging like the first time they fought, and try to continue the success he had in rd1 of their first fight.

Just frustrating from a fan standpoint, that's all.. im not making excuses for him (excuses wont justify getting dominated in all areas of the game). Im looking forward to hearing some post-fight stuff from him...

:director: Congrats to GSP!! Very impressive...

Not sure why everyone thinks he gassed---he was degassed by strength and abiliy of GSP, who controlled the fight w/ his improved jap, striking and takedown. He was on top of BJ the whole fight anyone is going to be gassed whey they are man-handled. BJ was in the same shape as when he crushed stevenson, but stevenson was lighter and bj was in control. GSP dominated the fight from start to finish and took away anythong bj wanted to accomplish.

I didn't notice BJ gassed either. I just saw a man get overwhelmed. Let someone else who's naturally 15lbs heavier than you to lay on you for 20minutes and beat up on you...I don't think you'd be doing back flips when you get up.

GSP's goal was to attack BJ's cardio.. he pressed him up against the cage early and let his 20-pound advantage wear on BJ... went on to do the same on the ground.

Sure BJ was exhausted, but I dont think that was the main reason he lost. GSP was bigger and better, Penn had no answers.

no doubt size played a part..

but,the way he defended the takedowns in the first round...gsp couldn`t get him off his feet...

that all went away after 5 hard minutes...actually they weren`t all that hard..they were spent leaning against the fence...

and he started eating jabs like m&m`s...he supposedly had the superior stand-up...

imo,he had nothing after the first round..wouldn`t be such an issue if it weren`t a recurring theme in his career...it`s always been the claim that his achilles heel is his cardio...

we can disagree...but i saw a guy that was done after the first round...

i do agree that he`s sort of a tweener....a small 170 pounder...and a decent sized 155 pounder...

hopefully he`ll fight ex-170pounders like diego sanchez and kenny florian in the near future....and i can get decent odds on these guys...
