Just a wee rant after watching a documentary on telly last night..

Was this band awesome or what??
eek.gif

Deborah Harry simply has to be the sexiest front-woman of all time

And they had some damn fine songs as they progressed from scene setters at CBGBs to pop perfection - "Slow Motion", "Presence Dear", "Dreaming", "Sunday Girl", "Union City Blue".

Harry could make your tongue hit the ground with alarming regularity; christ on a bike she could turn you on with some of those songs - "Denis", "Picture This".

My fave of those was "In the Flesh" -

"Darling, darling, darling
Now you're out of town
Those girls that you run with
They bring my head down
Oooh but darling, darling (whispered so that it made the hairs on your arm and your dick jump up simultaneously
smile.gif
)
Watch out if I see you
Cos if you say hello
It'll mean you wanna see me
In the flesh"

Holy smoke Batman...

And they had pop's best-ever drummer in Clem Burke

Yeah, they went on too long and their last album was a freakin' disaster zone
frown.gif

But at their prime they were superb.

Hate to sound like an old fogie
rolleyes.gif
but after listening to their first four albums again last night - on vinyl of course; vinyl has a soul, CDs are the devil
biggrin.gif
- gotta say they don't make 'em like that anymore.

Next week - Anders extols the virtues of the Glen Miller band

Redsfann you have got that right.

This is a good site and I respect MJ but, the average age of the posters here has to be younger than any like site on the net...and it shows day after day.

You just have to cut through the "what's your favorite movie" threads and people asking for advice on girl trouble, various addictions and the best buffet in Vegas to find good, solid, helpful information..because it's there.

Blondie was also on the leading edge of bringing the NY rap sound to the mainstream.

I don't think I even saw any black people on MTV until Blondie's videos.

azbob--

Nahh, the average around this here joint is older than you think..... My point is that there are not that many fans of that sort of sound in general-- and then factor in that this is a gambling site-- and the odds of that many people recognizing Blonde shrinks considerably.

New York Dolls, anyone?

Thank your for your reply, you culture slut

Sincerely
Jayne County

azbob - yeah, one of the things the doco also triggered was the long-forgotten thought of how the band were the forerunners of the use of videos - still got my Eat to the Beat vid collection..

will hand the stage over now to redsfann ato espouse the qualities of Steely Dan
biggrin.gif

...and The Alan Parsons Project

Anders you should keep posting these thoughts of the bands of yester year. I have about 210CDs and 100 vinyl and counting. not an avid collector, records around here are in to bad of shape, so going to the CD.

Blondie
Alan parsons (turn of a friendly card, I robot)

go further back to Glen Millar, and some Jazz legends. music is an indivual taste, I played some Robert Johnson ( a famous blues artist, can buy his recordings 2cd for around $25 cdn., influenced greatly rock and roll) for my brother and told him about the story in which he sold his soul to the devil to play the blues my brother response "he got ripped off". to each their own.

thanks

Yeah, from the Burroughs' novel "The Naked Lunch". LMFAO last year over all the protests at the Grammys over Eminem when they were handing out prizes left right and centre to a band named after a giant dildo

What about the Tubes?

Fee Waybil says hi!

Oh yeah, attack of the 50ft women

I like just about anything. My problem is I can't understand some what those dudes are saying. I believe if you ask them. They would say the same thing. If your talking about the one and only Blondie. Hey not so bad.

Dear old departed Tim Buckley-- a fantastic singer-songwriter. A great choice there, Anders
cool.gif

Since you went with Tim Buckley, I'll go with Alex Chilton.....

William S Burroughs is/was one sick, junkie fuc#$er... probably why I like him so much.....
Loved that scene in "Drugstore Cowboy" when Matt Dillon's character is having a conversation with him... one of the greatest moments in movie history......
