The initial plan called for Yeo to become the team's head coach next season after he joined the Blues last summer as an associate head coach. However, the struggles of the Blues this campaign made the change happen earlier than expected. Hitchcock has coached the Blues for the past six seasons, while registering a record of 248-124-41. St. Louis has made the playoffs every year under Hitchcock, but their hold over a postseason spot is tenuous right now.
