- - It would be accurate to say that since Mickelson claimed the Masters, golf has been out of sight and out of mind for me, more so than during any other 10 day stretch of April in the last five years, but beginning today, my routines should swing back toward typical immersion levels. Worthless thoughts emerge, anyway . . . My notes from last year suggest observations and assessments from the players that driving it sharp and massive off the tee were keys to having success on this venue, and Stan's compatibility stats seem to back that up; Jimenez has the right class and form to test that analysis . . . Marksaeng carried my cash last week, and after the fact I checked out on my VCR tape just a few critical holes from Sunday - there was really nothing discernibly different from what he usually produces, but a chance for magic clearly took a helpless and puzzling turn that IMO could have just as easily been the fate of those that emerged. Well, he appeared to take it well, and nothing at either end of the spectrum would surprise me this week . . . Van De Velde should have in him something approaching a final stand in Asia before some different faces stake their initial claim on the season when the Tour moves on to Spain . . . Lawrie's wager is based more on timing off last week's hints of form than the venue and locale.
