Last week was a much needed slump buster with Damien McGrane(50/1) and Boo Weekley(40/1). I'll be disappointed but not frustrated if I can't stay at least lukewarm with my nonsense for this week.

Outrights:

Henrik Stenson(10/1) e.w.
- - The player most due a win on the 2008 season is . . . Lee Westwood, head and shoulders above, IMO, by the ANGLES and INFORMATION that inform my decisions on Outrights (although value questions are a different layer of inquiry) . . . but Cink and Stenson then line up behind . . . Be that as it may, Stenson surprised me with his so solid effort at Augusta, and he seems certain to be thereabouts on the flatish and water hazard strewn venue this week.

Darren Clarke(66/1) e.w.
- - Post-Masters begins Phase II of a season in which I'm all in for a good while I suspect.

Michael Campbell(125/1) e.w.
- - Go Big or Go Home by pulling the trigger on this play, That's for Should :mj07: . . . "Campbell's season has been lurching, most notably when he carded three successive rounds in the 80s ahead of this month's Masters at Augusta . . . Campbell then missed an eighth successive cut at the Masters but left far from disappointed . . . "I was very pleased with the way I played at Augusta and to shoot 71 on the Friday and break par in those tough conditions was very encouraging," he said . . . "I felt as though I turned a very big corner even though it was tough knowing that I wasn't playing the final two rounds . . . But I've had a week at home continuing to work hard on my game and I'm really looking forward to the event.""

Jason Knutzon(140/1) e.w.
- - 8th last week, during which he appeared on the cusp of making the necessary things happen and pushing through during the first 54 holes, but the putts and other critical strokes just weren't there, and then as a poor candidate to push through on the Sunday slog he still gave a decent account of trying to grind through before losing the plot at the very last.

Damien deserves better from me, as I never pick up a winning marker without a strong reason for believing it's the thing to do.

agreed. looks around for a hats-off smilie (mad jacks please note)

now, if you can translate this golf form into picking numbers between 1-49 (there must be some mechanical bias!!), i'll go halves!

ps i edited this about three times to try not to sound condasending (spelling? bit leathered if i'm honest) and make it sound like it was just luck (with lottery bit) but still not sure it works!! not suggesting anything but good golf capping! now, where is that hats off smilie!

I know the slump is over because of the weight that feels lifted from my shoulders. :00hour

Tough stretches are inevitable when chasing wagers of 16/1, 50/1, 125/1, etc., but this was my first time experiencing a deep slump during the January to April stretch that has built my bankroll in prior seasons. I was grumpy . . . but increasingly diligent. :box2:

And I come to my sports and golf with fairly idealized notions of "the human drama of athletic competition," far apart from the rooting interests created by my wagering, so it's absolutely the case that some wins have a special significance. Phil Mickelson and his first major (25/1 in January) was huge for me, Jean Van De Velde was another special day, and a beaming Darren Clarke certainly added a glow to my nice pile of cash.

Thanks for the shouts. Let's share the wealth. Cheers! :toast:

"There?s always doubt. There?s been more frustration than there has been doubt but I?ve had so much support from so many people ? all my close friends, they know who they are, have been ?Go on Darren, keep going, keep going?. Sometimes it?s a big black hole there and it?s not easy to see through it. You know, they have been very supportive of me and I?ve been very grateful. It?s nice to be out the other side again." ~ Darren Clarke
