After Barclays and before Deutsche Bank I wrote: "And then I was reminded of the results from last week, and on a venue few loved, the cream on the final leaderboard was as impressive as you are likely to ever see, so it seemed fair to say that these guys are (elite) professionals, and with real millions at stake, and real volatility in the system, maybe the Fed Ex Cup had their attention, and it would be much that way down the stretch" . . . Fast forward, and Stricker won, and while there was a decent representation of the game's elites on Sunday afternoon, I'd say there was no definitive trend on the class of pros emerging in these playoffs . . . Anyway, I started this week with no less than 7 longshots in mind, and contemplated only playing the longshots (figuring I had some "house money" from a successful season, so why not try and make a killing), but instead I opted for a mix of players in my stable, although I was quicker to cut out the favorites at the top of the market than my speculative runners.
Geoff Ogilvy(33/1) e.w.
- - I'm always watching and assessing, and last week was the first time in "ages" this Ogilvyaholic saw shades of the right stuff from start to finish.
Stephen Ames(80/1) e.w.
- - 3 Top 25 in last 4 and a closing 66, so is playing well. A former champion at Cog Hill means much many times. Goes from a hungry dog trying to make Greg Norman's team, to a peeved dog with a chip on his shoulder, while still a hungry dog if he's going to move on to the Tour Championship.
Kenny Perry(80/1) e.w.
- - Liking Perry for much similar reasons as Quiros at Mercedes, should have joined them as a "natural" double. Also appears to be value in this price, even if I wasn't one of those "cwazy cwappers" that actually tries to nail the winner.
Charles Howell(150/1) e.w.
- - I had given CHIII serious consideration last week but passed, and with a nervous eye on him, there was a stretch where I thought I had missed out on a serious run. Happy to get a crack this week.
Ryan Moore(150/1) e.w.
- - I still believe he could go on from his first win to a second win kind of like Villegas and Kim did last year, plus a moment from Medinah in 2006 when I watched him from the gallery compels me to seal the deal.
Luke Donald(90/1) e.w.
- - Folderol.
