Outright plays (total stake per play: 1pt)

Paul Casey to win 11/1 e.w. @ Boyle Sports [6 places]
In stark contrast to the PGA Tour, it appears that players returning to the European Tour after competing in the U.S. Open do so on a high. Last year, it was the Diageo Championship the week after the U.S. Open and it was won by Paul Casey who had just finished 15th at Winged Foot. Similarly, Bjorn and Monty finished 4th having been 48th and 2nd at Winged Foot, while Kenneth Ferrie finished 9th having, not only finished 6th at Winged Foot, but had held the lead with one round to play as well! Last year was clearly a triumphal return for the European Tour players as they had filled 11 of the top-25 places in the U.S. Open and after the European Tour had five players in the top-10 last week, including the winner, it should again be another such triumphal return. So, on that basis, I'm expecting Casey and Fasth to carry on exactly where they left off last week. Casey had a horrid stretch of six dropped shots in five holes on the front nine on Sunday and he would finish six shots behind Angel Cabrera, but there are so many positives for Casey to take from that week. It helps that he finished on a high with two consecutive birdies, but the enormity of his 2nd round 66 was such that all the players on the putting green stopped to applaud him as he approached the final green. Now add in the fact that he won the week after the U.S. Open last year and has a course history that reads 7th, 7th, 3rd, 3rd, mc, 13th and he really should shoot some very low scores this week around Munchen Nord-Eichenried.

Niclas Fasth to win 22/1 e.w. @ Boyle Sports [6 places]
The same applies to Fasth for whom time merely ran out on Sunday. He shot the lowest back nine of the leaders (33) and looked as though he would have made up the two-shot deficit if he only had a few more holes to play. Now he returns to a course on which he finished 4th two years ago and to a country in which he has finished in the top-4 in four of his last eight visits, including one win (2005 Deutsche Bank Players' Championship of Europe), so I certainly think that he can carry on his momentum from last week and win again on German soil.

Alejandro Canizares to win 50/1 e.w. @ Victor Chandler, Sportingbet, Sporting Odds, Bet365 and ToteSport
This is a selection more in keeping with the traditional philosophy of avoiding players after a major as Canizares' last event was in the Celtic Manor Wales Open two weeks ago. He finished 8th on that occasion to record his third consecutive top-20 finish. In fact, he has been so consistent this year that he ranks 3rd in Scoring Average on the Tour, so on that basis alone 50/1 should be good value. But added to this is his performance last year when he was 2nd at the cut and the fact that he has already won on this Tour despite being a member of the Tour for less than a year. That certainly points to good value at 50/1.

Stan do you write for betting zone?
3pts win Paul Casey at 12/1 (General). Won the week after last year's US Open and this track really suits his game.
1.5pts e.w. Niclas Fasth at 25/1 (General 1/4 1,2,3,4,5). Top European at Oakmont, recent winner in Germany and T4 here in 2005.
1pt e.w. Andres Romero at 40/1 (General 1/4 1,2,3,4,5). In excellent form and shot three 69s here last year. Played with Cabrera in World Cup so could be inspired.
1pt e.w. Alejandro Canizares at 50/1 (General 1/4 1,2,3,4,5). Rising star was 25th on debut here in 2006 and closed with pair of 65s at Celtic Manor.

Anyway what are the odds on poulter over monty?

Ian Poulter -115 over Monty (72 holes)

Decent course for Monty, however so was Oakmont. 2 Horrid finishes for Mrs Doubtfire. Really hoping this trend continues. I really wanted casey over els, still might grab it.

Paul Casey +100 over Ernie Els (72)

Wrong person favored in my opinion. Perfect course for casey, hits bombs and makes tons of birdies.

Ernie Els -110 over Henrik Stenson

Love this one more than a fat kid loves cake. Sure Stenson is the defending champ. But his game is in bad shape. He more than likely will have to wd because his wife is due to give birth. I think this is a strong play if you can get this line :scared

I'm not so sure about Stenssons game being in bad shape. According to his manager Stensson is in really good form and full of revenge for making some costly errors at Oakmont. From golf.se, if u can read swedish...

Revanschsugen Stenson

Is that english
BMW International Open holder Henrik Stenson, though, missed the cut in America. The Swede, who said his game is not in good shape at the moment, may have to pull out during this week's event if his wife Emma gives birth to their first child.

Casey and long-time caddy split

Paul Casey has followed Colin Montgomerie's lead by parting company with his long-time caddie.
Casey had been with Craig Connolly for three years but said the pair agreed to go their separate ways after his 10th-place finish at the US Open.

"We've probably been getting at each other and it's best to keep your sanity," said the British world No 16.

"We were friends before we were working together so to save the friendship it's probably best to take away the golf."

Casey made the announcement on the eve of the BMW International Open in Munich, where his bag carrier will be Irishman John Mulrooney.

"Watch this space - but John knows it's just this week for him," he said.

Casey and Connolly have had temporary breaks before, and Casey said the change benefited his game, so he was hopeful the same thing might happen again.

"Last time it was good because I had a few weeks using other guys and then we came back and played some great golf."

There had been reports Connolly may team up with Montgomerie, but the Scotsman's manager Guy Kinnings said this was news to him.

"It will be somebody temporary this week, then we will sit down and discuss things on Monday," he said.

"I've been inundated by texts, emails and phone calls and after weeding out the enthusiastic, but inappropriate people off the street I've got a list of about 30 professional caddies offering their services."

Scotland's Colin Montgomerie has withdrawn from this week's BMW International in Munich after falling ill, his manager said.

The Ryder Cup star felt sick after flying home from last week's US Open at Oakmont where he failed to make the cut.

"He was sick overnight Tuesday and all day Wednesday," his manager Guy Kinnings said.

Montgomerie has endured a miserable season and sacked his caddie Alastair McLean following a missed cut at his last event in Europe, the Austrian Open.

He used a local caddie at Oakmont, but it did not lead to a change of fortune as he comfortably missed out on the last two days.

Montgomerie's place at the European Tour event has gone to England's Shaun Webster.

The tournament lost another of its star attractions on Wednesday when American John Daly pulled out for personal reasons.

Both he and Montgomerie had played in a money-spinning 'skins' event in Canada after the U.S. Open.:cursin: :cursin: :cursin: :cursin:

Well maybe i was lucky considering poulter shot +1 :mj07:

I dont think Monty would have done much better though. I really thought Casey had a chance to go really low (8 or 9) after the turn. Parring the last a hole that els made eagle and bogeying the drivable par 4 was like giving 2 or 3 back. Oh well.. still 3 rounds of golf left.
