Round 1 plays (2pts):
Thongchai Jaidee to beat Chris Wood -111 @ Bet365
Wood returned to the Tour last week for the first time in two months following injury, so this will be his first strokeplay event since withdrawing from the Malaysian Open in March. He may play well as he did at times last week, but I'd rather back Jaidee who finished 2nd last week to extend his run of top-10 finishes to four and has made the cut in nine of ten visits to Wentworth.
Ross Fisher to beat George Coetzee -109 @ Pinnacle [also available @ Stan James]
Having grown up on Wentworth, Fisher should be a course specialist and he did finished 2nd in 2009 and 10th in 2010; he also finished 10th in his last outing on the PGA Tour (Wells Fargo Championship). Coetzee went out after the first round of matches last week and has just one strokeplay finish inside the top-50 since leaving South Africa in January.
Thongchai Jaidee to beat Stephen Gallacher -118 @ Pinnacle [also available @ Stan James and BetVictor]
Backing Jaidee again - the former paratrooper should have the stamina to cope with six rounds of golf last week. Regardless of how he reacts to last week, Gallacher has missed the cut in seven of the last eight years at Wentworth and is worth opposing on that basis alone.
Luke Donald to beat Sergio Garcia -125 @ Stan James [also available @ Pinnacle and BetVictor]
Also worth opposing is Sergio after (i) his meltdown at the last two holes in the Players Championship; (ii) his 'fried chicken' remarks last night which forced him into a very public apology. To be able to oppose him with a player who has finished 2nd, 1st and 1st in the last three years is a bonus.
