Stories surfacing that he is resigning.

Yahoo Sports has something on their site already, but otherwise not much else out there. Has not even been on the ticker yet on this espn game I am watching.

Interesting.

Looks like the Lubbock Avalance Journal got the first scoop. Only a couple of graphs. Knight resigned this morning; Pat Knight takes over for at least the rest of the year.

ESPN right now breaking into the Marquette game to make the announcement.

Bilas said he's stunned and thought RMK would retire at end of year, though....and Rafferty said he did not think RMK was enjoying it as much based on a talk he had with him leading up to the season.

What a weird development for the college hoops season.

Its a bizarre move by RMK, it seems out of character to up and quit. Cant imagine his pride and/or ego allowing him to even admit to his critics that he would consider himself so washed up that he would leave his team in "better hands" for the rest of the year.

Since it seems out of character, I hope he's healthy and not sick or something.

Consider Tech. This is not some 8-13 team. They're a decent bet to get into the NCAAs, especially if they can close strong in the proverbial final 10 games combined with a good showing in the Big 12 Tourney. They have enough marquee games coming up that it was going to be kind of cool to see the Raiders host KSU, OU, Texas and Baylor in the season's closing weeks.

I, and I am sure a lot of others, won money on his team in home whackings of Tamu, Missou and Okie State in their three league games in Lubbock. I had been looking forward to those above big home games.

How does this impact Tech's remaining season. How do we add this news into handicapping their games.

And, for those of us at IU.....I tell you, everytime I saw the TT bench and saw Pat right next to him, I must admit that I breathed a sigh of relief that I was not looking at the IU bench. I kept thinking Joey Meyers at Depaul. I guess we'll see how good Pat is right now and if my fears and sighs of relief were justified.

College coaching legend Knight resigns from Texas Tech
Associated Press

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Texas Tech coach Bob Knight resigned Monday and his son Pat will take over the program.

Bob Knight acknowledges the crowd after getting his record 880th win last season.

Chris Cook, a spokesman for athletic director Gerald Myers confirmed the resignation, which was first reported by the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.

Bob Knight has 902 career wins, more than any coach in the history of Division I men's basketball. Win No. 900 came last month against Texas A&M. The Red Raiders are 12-8 this season.

The 67-year-old Knight has been a head coach for 42 years at three Division I schools. He got his 100th victory at Army, then moved to Indiana, where his Hoosiers went 662-239 and won three national championships from 1971-2000.

His first NCAA title came in 1976 when Indiana went undefeated, a feat no team has done since. In 1984, he coached the U.S. Olympic team to a gold medal in Los Angeles.

Knight, known as much for his fiery temper as his coaching brilliance, came to Texas Tech in March 2001, six months after being fired by Indiana for what school officials there called a "pattern of unacceptable behavior."

He began his coaching career in 1965 at Army, where at 24 he was the youngest-ever Division I coach.

hate to say it but Knight probably did something .

its not like him to quit.

Now if they refused to extend his son Pat as coach when he leaves, he may have got pissed about something in a contract.

I hope he has a good reason for quitting on his team......

Agree with that. He did win on the court and graduate his players, but this seems odd. This is the same guy that a few years back gave his annual salary back because he felt like the team wasn't performing to expectations.

I will admit that I won't miss see any Bob Knight interviews. he's about as good of an interview as Belichick. Never answering the questions put forth and steering the discussion where he wants it to go.

Too bad Eddie Sutton just got his #800 - otherwise he would have tried to take this gig to get his 800th.

I will echo TP's statement that I hope it isn't health reasons. Like him or dislike him, you hope there isn't anything health related behind it.
