here is a review of an investment book, will have updates on the Energy thread (best to wait, after the carnage will be some great deals in the oil/gas stocks), and on the CP spinoffs that are doing very well but seem a little rich at this point.
will write some more puts when the market (if) falls some more. written quite a few in November and should wait to see how they do, so far so good.
this thread will be on investment books, if anyone has an investment book- about business feel free to post why you liked the book or cannot stand it.
finally finished reading "A million a Minute" by Hillary Davis.
"Inside the world of Securities trading- The men, The women, the money that make the markets work"
published in 1998 $27US $40cdn, picked it up for $3 cdn. in early September picked up two other books and will have reviews sometime this year. note Notradamus books in September were selling out with waiting lists in the hundreds. so I was able to get some bargains on some investment books that had to be cleared out, after the Chapters sale.
the book is 278 pages, not including Trade speak (some definations, done very well) and notes where the quotes or some information came from also well done.
The book deal with many topics including computer trading, short selling, fraud, and also some of the people behind the markets.
This book was not a page turner but had a great deal of information. The profiles should have been longer such as the one on Bloomberg now the mayor of New York.
She also at the start of the book goes overboard in the praise of the people who work in the industry, at some point you feel they should all be considered saints.
Great book for under $10 and a good general read on the investment markets. Only problem with the book is it sometimes hard to get through certain chapters and the general flow of the book.
"An impresive, accessible, up to date, and sometimes exhilarating study fo the free-market warriors who make up the international trading community.... This is an excellent book."
Financial Times
Generally agree good information and in general well done not just as much fun to read as Barbarians at the Gate, or Dumb Money. ect.
next review GREED by Deborah Thompson, yes another book I bought for $3 cdn. in September. looks good.
thanks
