Do not often wager on this event because of format (uncertainty of player winning multiple skins on one good shot all day) but with todays players it makes it very tough on 2 entrants- annika and funk- because of distance bias on this course.
Most times this touney is won on last 2 holes as sponsers want it to have dramatic conclusion and everyone in it so large amounts on final skins.
While Annika and Funk will be at disadvatange most of tourney they will be at huge disadv these last 2 holes making their chance for miracle ending very remote.
The prevailing wind generally plays into and across on 17 (a 205) par3. Woods hit 4 iron on this hole last year.
18 played only 525 last year but right in the teeth of wind and unless ball in fairway not much chance of reaching in two.All 4 players played it twice last year due to play off--and green was only reached twice-both from fairway-Couples a wood and Tiger 3 iron.
So despite wind not projected not as brisk as in 04 it still makes Tiger or Couples attractive despite short odds--as I consider it more a head to head match bet.
Choosing between the 2 is tough decision. Couples excells in these skins games and putter always gets hot--Tiger has been underachiever.
However have never seen Tiger drive ball better than he did in Grand Slam earlier in week generally outhitting Mick and Singh by 20 yards.
Not sure which way I'll go yet--just want to throw up some observations.
Most fun in this event will be watching Funk and Annika on drives as Woods and Couples have been ribbing him pretty hard on possibilty of Annika outdriving him--which might have Funk trying to add a little and not be so accurate. Rough here was pretty penal last year.
