VT +10 over UCLA
Bought two points here.
Looking over all the information. Virginia Tech (8-4) leads the ACC in sacks (37) and ranks among the nation's top 10 against the rush (103.8 yards per game), the pass (168.5) and in interceptions (19). The Bruins (9-3) are a much more balanced team than the 8-4 Hokies. UCLA is No. 37 in total offense and No. 56 in total defense. The Hokies, meanwhile, are No. 4 in total defense but No. 98 in total offense. Hundley leads the Pac-12 with a 67.8 completion percentage, throwing for 2,845 yards with 22 touchdowns and nine interceptions. He's been picked off once while tossing eight scoring passes over the past five games. The Bruins are 56th nationally in total defense (392.8 yards per game) and 73rd in rushing defense (171.7), but it hasn't mattered who Virginia Tech is facing this season. When the Hokies struggle to move the ball, it's because quarterback Logan Thomas. Logan Thomas is expected to be under center for his third straight bowl, but he'll likely need to be better to give the Hokies a chance. He's completed 34 of 67 passes for 407 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions over the first two. UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley against the Virginia Tech defense, ranked No. 4 in the nation in total defense. Hundley is one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks in the country, with 3,432 total yards and 31 total touchdowns. The Hokies' D did have some trouble with the last dual-threat quarterback it faced, C.J. Brown of Maryland. How do you contain Hundley? UCLA's young offensive line against the Virginia Tech defensive line. UCLA has three freshmen starting on the O-line, while Virginia Tech's defensive front four includes three seniors and a junior. UCLA has allowed 34 sacks this season. Virginia Tech has sacked opposing quarterbacks 25 times this season. UCLA is just 73rd against the run. The Hokies should use a combination of Thomas, J.C. Coleman, Chris Mangus and Joel Caleb to keep things balanced on offense.
Basically VT is a bad offensive team with a great defense. Logan Thomas has way to much experience to play as bad as he has this season. VT has some young weapons that may benefit from the extra practices gearing up to this game. This extra time allows VT practice and time to get healthy. Bud Foster is a great game planner and this homie defense should be up to stop the Bruins. Remember they did hold Bama earlier this season. I wonder if Thomas and the offense can move the ball but pressure is on first year offensive coordination. Should be fun to watch but I will take ten points and that defense.
Cheers
