Bowl Game Trends

By SPORTSBETTING.COM

We?re getting close to the opening kick-off in the Poinsettia Bowl on December 20th, which will mark the official start of the 2007-2008 NCAA Bowl season. We were looking over some trends for the bowl matchups and thought we?d share some of these numbers in this week?s NCAA article.

Below you?ll find ATS numbers for teams, as well as noteworthy trends specifically related to a bowl venue.

This article will cover the first batch of games, up to the New Year?s Eve schedule. We?ll look at the trends for the all the bowl games scheduled between December 31st and the BCS game on January 7th in our NCAA article on the December 27th.

Here are the trends:

Team Trends of Note

Poinsettia Bowl: Utah has a record of 5-0 ATS in their last five bowl game appearances.

Papa Johns Bowl: Cincinnati has only covered the spread once in their last five bowl games.

Las Vegas Bowl: BYU has not been a good team to back in bowl games, as they have a record of 8-16-1 in their last 25 bowl game appearances.

Holiday Bowl: The Texas Longhorns have a mark of 2-6 ATS in their last eight bowl starts.

Champs Sports Bowl: Boston College had been on a 6-0 ATS run the last six seasons in their bowl games, but last year?s ATS loss to Navy snapped the streak of consecutive covers. That took them to 6-1 ATS the last seven years in the final game of the season.

Texas Bowl: TCU is a profitable 3-0-1 ATS in their last four bowl game starts, covering the last five years.

Emerald Bowl: Maryland has a mark of 3-0 ATS in their most recent three bowl game appearances.

Alamo Bowl: Texas A&M has a record of 1-4 ATS in their last four bowl games. Their opponent in this year?s Alamo Bowl is Penn State. Looking at the total in this one, the Nittany Lions and their bowl opponents haven?t combined to score more than 49 points in any of the last six bowl starts.
The line is this one currently sits at 51.5.

Independence Bowl: Five of the last six bowl appearances for Colorado have produced 54 points or more. The Over/Under line in this bowl game currently sits at 51.
Alabama has a record of 1-5 ATS in their last six bowl game starts.

Trends of Note for Bowl Venues:

Alamo Bowl: In this matchup between a Big Ten team and a Big 12 team, the Big Ten has been fairly dominant over the last decade and a bit. The Big Ten rep is 8-3 ATS the last 11 times this bowl game has been played.

Hawaii Bowl: This tropical setting has been good for producing points, as the Hawaii Bowl has posted a mark of 5 overs and 1 under the last six seasons.

Las Vegas Bowl: Perhaps the Pac 10 team feels letdown having to come play in this bowl game, because they haven?t shown well. The Mountain West representative has had their way, covering the spread in six straight Las Vegas Bowl games (and are 5-1 straight up in those games).

Enjoy the games and remember to keep an eye out for more bowl trends of note in our article on December 27th.
