Bowling Season Starts?Now

By SPORTSBETTING.COM

It comes but once a year; towards the end of the month of December; it is anticipated by a great many and it can be the cause of much cheer.

No, not Christmas, we?re talking about college bowl season of course and the 2007/08 edition is all set to begin with the Poinsettia Bowl on Thursday and culminate with the Allstate BCS Championship game on January 7, 2008.

Let?s have a look at a few of the early bowl games, see how they set-up and where the money is going.

San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia Bowl

The 8-4 Utah Utes and 8-4 Navy Midshipmen hope to starts the bowl season with a bang when they kick things off at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego.

Although this is the season of giving, nobody told Georgia Tech as they managed to sweep in and take Navy head coach Paul Johnson away from the program. This lead to a swift promotion for assistant Ken Niumatalolo, who will fill the role of head coach for this bowl game. This type of scenario isn?t entirely uncommon during bowl season, but it is worth noting.

The song will remain the same on offense though for Navy, as the option will be the centerpiece of a majority of the plays called by QB Kaipo-Noa Kaheaku-Enhada as evidenced by the fact that he leads Navy in both passing (830 yards) and rushing (782 yards).

Utah QB Brian Johnson isn?t as fleet of foot, rushing for only 81 yards this season, but he is more of a presence in the pocket than Kaheaku-Enhada, passing for 1621 yards and 10 TDs.

SPORTSBETTING.COM has Utah favored by 7?-points, but the betting public seems to like men in uniform as the underdog Navy squad is seeing 60% of the action.

Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl

With a 10-2 record, at first glance you might think that Brigham Young has an edge over a 6-6 UCLA team, but when you go a little deeper it?s clear those records don?t tell the real story. Obviously strength of competition needs to be factored in (UCLA?s schedule was considerably tougher) and these two did meet head-to-head once already this season.

UCLA?s ATS record is better than BYU?s as the Bruins are 8-4 to the Cougars? 6-5 and in that meeting earlier in the season, UCLA came out on top, 27-17 covering as an 8?-point favorite in the process.

Ben Olson was the Bruins? leading passer with only 1040 yards passing and 7 TDs although he has been hampered by a knee injury and the Desert Morning News is reporting that Osaar Raashan (259 yards passing) has been taking a majority of the snaps in practice.

BYU pivot Max Hall has put up more impressive numbers passing for 3617 yards and 24 TDs.

SPORTSBETTING.COM has the BYU Cougars favored by 5?-points in the rematch in Las Vegas. The bettors believe that BYU can exact some revenge for the earlier loss, as they are grabbing Cougar tickets at a rate of 75%.

Sheraton Hawaii Bowl

Last year Boise State played, quite possibly, the greatest college bowl game in history when it knocked off Oklahoma in OT to take the Fiesta Bowl.

Those of you expecting Boise State to make back-to-back trips to a BCS game were probably disappointed to see the Broncos lose in the final game of the season to conference rivals Hawaii 39-27.

The Rainbow Warriors ended up heading to the BCS? Sugar Bowl, while Boise State had to settle for a second straight trip to Aloha Stadium to play the East Carolina Pirates in the Hawaii Bowl.

SPORTSBETTING.COM has Boise State favored by 10?-points in this matchup.

The Broncos are getting an overwhelming majority of the betting action as 90% of the volume is directed to Boise State.

Champs Sports Bowl

Although three untimely losses cost Boston College a berth in a BCS game, the Eagles have won seven straight bowl games in a row but will have to be on their toes if they want to make it eight, as their opponent for the Champs Sports Bowl are the Michigan State Spartans.

But BC has the nation?s sixth best passing attack led by QB Matt Ryan who has tossed for over 4000 yards and 28 TDs and Ryan spreads the ball around evenly as the Eagles have five WRs who have yards receiving in the 500-700 yard range.

With the high profile season they?ve just completed and the strong past bowl performances, the bettors at SPORTSBETTING.COM have tabbed the Eagles as one of their favorite plays from the early bowl schedule. Very little Michigan State money is showing up so far, as BC backers are betting on the 3.5-point favorite at an 87% clip.
It should be a good one.

?Tis the season to be jolly, so enjoy the holiday season and all the college football that is on tap.

Season?s Greetings.
