Box, I'm looking at this game and either it's a big overlay or I'm missing something important.

UL-Lafayette giving only 4 to North Texas. I know it's AT N. Texas, but is that stadium a huge factor in this game?

I see N.Texas getting beat up on all the major stats. They've only scored 6 TD's all year and they pass for a measly 4.3 yds./attempt. They can run a little, but not enough to control the clock as they are behind in time of possession by a 2-1 margin. They are allowing 9.5 yds./pass attempt on defense with 68% completion rate.

I could go on, but why? This game looks out of whack, enough so, that I need some assurance. I played it small already, but I'm anxious to get your insight. One of my models show UL winning by 10, they other by 14'.

Box, I know you follow this school .... tell me what I'm missing before I unload. :scared

Have been working on this game all week.LaLaf can put some pts on the bd but are inconsistent. But Babb there starting qb might be back.La defense is pretty bad also. But NT defense is worse.NT offense is worse then NT defense.
Still playing with numbers but big lean on La-laf right.Babb if he comes back could pick apart NT.Lyr in one game he threw for over 430 yds and 4 td's.Desomeaux the backup now can run the ball.
Will get update on Babb status.

Babb played vs troy last week:

"As anticipated, Jerry Babb made his debut on the Cajuns third offensive series. Babb, who had missed the last three games, had the Cajuns driving until a fumble by Derrick Smith gave the ball to TU.

Whibbs missed a 32-yard field goal to give Babb another chance. Babb moved the Cajuns into field goal range, but Comiskey missed the 44-yard attempt."

DENTON ? Offensive coordinator Ramon Flanigan said UNT will cut down on the number of repetitions senior running back Patrick Cobbs takes this week in preparation for the Mean Green's game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday.

Cobbs aggravated an ankle injury during the Mean Green's loss to LSU on Saturday and finished with three carries for 21 yards. Both totals were season-lows.

DENTON ? North Texas' game against Louisiana-Lafayette on Saturday represents the point of no return for the Mean Green.

UNT has lost five of its last six games and was blown out the last two weeks by Louisiana Tech and LSU. Despite that, UNT is in the middle of a three-team race for the Sun Belt Conference title.

Louisiana-Monroe (3-4 overall, 3-0 Sun Belt) sits atop the standings, Arkansas State (4-3, 3-1) is in second. UNT (2-5, 2-1) has home games remaining with ULM and Arkansas State and can do no worse than tie for the Sun Belt title by winning its last four games.

"Our focus needs to be Louisiana-Lafayette (3-5, 2-2) and not what everyone else is doing," UNT coach Darrell Dickey said. "If we don't win that game, it's pretty much over for us."

UNT came into the season as the favorite to win a fifth straight Sun Belt title. The Mean Green has struggled and saw its 26-game Sun Belt Conference winning streak end with a 13-10 loss to Troy and floundered in losses to LSU (56-3) and Louisiana Tech (40-14).

UNT needs to win its last four games to post six wins, become bowl eligible and stay in a tight race for the Sun Belt championship that has taken shape.

"Our players look at the standings, but I tell them that you can't get caught up in it," Dickey said. "The only thing that we can control is how we play."

Cajuns elect to leave today

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football team departs today for Denton, Texas, for its key Sun Belt Conference battle against North Texas. The departure time, though, is earlier than anticipated.

With the Cajuns making the trip by bus instead of a scheduled charter flight - one of the department's cost-cutting measures with the recent budget cuts - the squad will depart the UL Conference Center at 8:15 a.m.

"We didn't want to seem like we were rushing things," said Cajun coach Rickey Bustle. "We're going to make a nice day out of it."

The team will drive to Marshall, Texas, before having lunch, and is scheduled to arrive in Denton at 4:30 p.m. Bustle said the team will hold a walk-through at the hotel late this afternoon and hold its regular Friday-night meetings. "We'll watch some movies on the bus," Bustle said, "and get on our regular schedule Friday night."

One concession to the trip is a change in the team's Sunday schedule. The team's regular 3 p.m. meetings have been moved to 6 p.m. to be followed by a Sunday night practice.

"We explained to the kids what was going on," Bustle said of the switch from a charter flight to a bus trip. "Everybody has to do their part. The budget cuts have affected the whole university and the whole state, and all of our sports are going to get cut. This is part of what we can do."

re' Green (turf toe) and safety Lamar Morgan (leg laceration).

Offensive tackle Brandon Cox went through all of Thursday's drills and will now likely start despite a sore knee, and linebacker Mack Fair (knee) and defensive tackle Curtis Isaac (elbow) both worked the entire Thursday practice. Defensive end Eugene Kwarteng and cornerback Jarrett Jones were both favoring sore ankles Thursday but are also listed as probable for Saturday.

NT prepares for run-heavy offense
Linebackers look to stun Ragin? Cajuns ground game

November 04, 2005

The Mean Green linebackers have been one of the most consistent aspects of its roster this season. That unit will play a key role in determining the outcome of NT?s game against Louisiana-Lafayette Saturday.

The Ragin? Cajuns team brings a style of offense similar to that of Texas, in which the quarterback has various options on every play. NT coach Darrell Dickey said the linebackers will play a big role in stopping that type of offense.

?Against this style of offense, you have to play your assignments correctly,? Dickey said. ?You can?t just run up the field. The linebackers are going to have to do a good job of keying [where the ball is].?

The Louisiana-Lafayette offense relies mostly on the run. And thus far, it has proved very effective in Sun Belt play. The Ragin? Cajuns squad is number one in the Sun Belt in rushing offense, averaging 265.5 yards per game on the ground. What?s more impressive, that stat has Louisiana-Lafayette ranked as the number ten offense in the NCAA.

Dickey is very impressed with the offense the Ragin? Cajuns has shown.

?Their offensive line is really good? They are getting big plays off of it, they are not making mistakes,? Dickey said.

In addition to its top ranking in rush offense, the Ragin? Cajuns offense is in the top three of five additional offensive categories in the Sun Belt. It is third in both scoring offense (22.5 points per game) and total offense (369.5 yards per game). It is second in the conference in both first down yardage and third-down conversions. It is the number one Sun Belt team in the red zone, coming away with points on all 13 trips against conference opponents.

Louisiana-Lafayette has two different players averaging more than 85 yards per game on the ground against conference opponents in Michael Desormeaux and Tyrell Fenroy. Josh Harrison also adds 50 yards per game on the ground in Sun Belt play for an offense that has put up 30 points or more in two of its last three games.

?They have really been a team that has gotten stronger as the season has gone on?This is a team we are going to have to be at our best to beat,? Dickey said.
