My reasons for playing Darchinyan over Sikali...
1A Sikali has been very inactive, he has only fought 5 times in the last 4 years. He was stripped of the WBA Int title for inactivity in 2001. At 33 years old it seems fighting is not much of a priority for him right now.
1B Darch has fought 22 times in the last 4 years. He's 29, he's fresh, and he's hungry.
2A In 1997 Sikali was stopped in the first round by southpaw Wongjongpong at 108
In 2002 Sikali was dropped 3 times in the first round by southpaw Roy Doliguez who is now 12-6-2 with 6 ko's, the fight was stopped due to a headbutt and was ruled a tech draw. Sikali obviously has problems fighting other southpaws.
2B Darchinyan is a southpaw with a lot of power
3A In 1999 Sikali lost a split decision to Luigi Castilione who went on to lose 2 of his next 5 fights against weak competition. One of them was a 6 round unanimous decision loss in his own back yard to a journeyman.
3B This fight is in Darch's home land of Austrailia, he will defintly have a full crowd of support behind him. The judges down under usually help the home team out a little also.
4A In 2002 Sikali won the IBO belt by winning a contraversial majority decision over Makepula. I read an unbias review of the fight that said it could have easily gone to Makepula as he dominated the second half of the fight. Sounds like Sikali ran out of steam.
4B Darch started very strong against Pacheco who like Sikali is a southpaw. Darch domintaed the early rounds and the later rounds against Pacheco. This is Vics homecoming after winning the title, he should be extremely fired up to defend his title in front of the home crowd.
I think Darch will be too much for Sikali and should stop him. Darch has alot of power, he was the first to stop Pacheco and Singwangcha who has gone the distance with Aguirre at 105 and Hussein at 112. Darch stopped him in the 4th in their first fight and stopped him in the 5th in the rematch. If Sikali manages to make it to the final bell, the decision should be in favor of the champion defending on his home turf.
