Play is Calzaghe-260, period. Long stories are not required here. Just take the better man.

franks..i`m curious...why not just take the "joe by decision" prop?...

you really worried about a calzaghe stoppage of b.hop.?...a cut?(it`s possible, but not likely).....

maybe lightning will strike....but,a calzaghe stoppage is about as likely as an earthquake in illinois.....:00x12

ya know...after giving this some thought,i guess a stoppage COULD happpen...

you could see a scenario in which one guy knows he`s behind and pushes the envelope....either getting careless or actually getting the stoppage...but,truthfully,i think it`s more likely that calzaghe would get stopped than hopkins....

imo.... i personally hedged bhop with joe by decision...

I haven't made a play yet, will just go "TV-size" when/if I do. I'll take Devils Advocate here, just thinking out loud.

This morning I did a radio show guest spot on this bout, and made the point that much is being said of Hopkins being "the old man" but if Calzaghe was in with most other fighters the same could be said of him at 36, no?

We know Hopkins can win (and sometimes even beat other fighters) at an advanced age, but when is time going to show on Joe?

Won't be pretty to watch, Hopkins will do anything to win - punch then clinch, head butt, elbow, back of the head, etc; and I wonder how Calzaghe will react.

Joe not as small as beefed up welters like Oscar and Tito, but Hopkins more natural at this weight, is always in the gym between fights and maintains constant fighting shape, and has defied the odds on plenty of occasions.

Pedigree? Edge Hopkins.
Home court (venue, not crowd)? Edge Hopkins.

And lately I have been wondering - at some point, is Vegas (where the most money is) going to say "too many belts overseas, time to bring some home for financial purposes" (not a conspiracy theorist but it's not like bad decisions aren't a regularity in the sport and the figures involved here are astronomical.) Not so much a factor here, as Hopkins says he will most likely retire after this (sarcasm there) but my concern is that a close decision goes Hopkin's way.

Enough thoughts to make me bet Hopkins?
I don't know, just thinking out loud right now . . .
Thanks for your contributions Frank, much appreciated.

The thought hits me - could I be biased?

I always tell people that something as important as Faith should be an educated, informed choice,
not due to accident of birth.

And "the best of the best" should be decided by accomplishment, not geography or league based boundaries/categories (see GS Warriors, as opposed to Raps, Hawks and 76'ers.)

But could I be guilty of the same prejudices?
Could I be so pro-US (by accident of birth only)
and anti-UK, our former shacklers, that I let it unconciously effect my thinking in Calzaghe/Hopkins?
Hmmm . . .
I rooted for Mayweather over Hattton.
I rooted for 'Vander over Lennox.
I rooted for anybody over Princess Naseem.
I rooted for Mathew Saad over Murray Sutherland!
(Although that may have been because of Murray's funky plaid shorts.)

Hmmmm . . .

+260? I'd hedge my bet a little w/those odds. When this fight was announced I was licking my chops @-250 Zags. I didn't give Hop much of a chance. Maybe the hype and analysis is taking a toll but I admit my feet are getting just a little cold on my wager...stands about 6k w/about a -230 avg on Zags. I can see Hop holding, hitting, butting, elbowing etc and slowing the pace in an ugly affair. If he can time his hard shots then he can steal rds. The intrigue and not the fight itself will keep fans on the edge. Zags by dec but not w/the confidence I had 2 months ago. I'll post my final wager b4 the fight.

I hedged the bet a little w/Hop +225. I have about 6 seperate wagers total on it but essentially have 2500 on Zags to win 1k. I still believe he wins a dec but I simply had too much dough on it before the hedge. A Hop win prior to the hedge would have taken a huge chunk of the yearly profit. Good luck people.

Leader after round 3 loses fight or draw +270

Given the way Hop and Calzaghe start their fights, this is basically a +270 bet on Hopkins.

And if by some miracle Hop is ahead after 3, you've got a +270 bet on Joe Calzaghe.

Lovin' it. Probably my only bet on the fight.

Weasel-I get your drift bro. Zags by decision is the logical play here. As Sonny stated, B-Hop will do all kinds of criminal activity to win. I don't think Zags will fold under the pressure. I say he can be just as nasty as the ex-felon. We may see a modern version of Willie Pep and Sandy Saddler. This may be boxing, ufc, and WWF all in one. Romi-don't let that purse-snatcher get inside your head. He is going to lose. I usually don't come in here so bold, but that cheese-dick MF asked Zags if he was perpared to die; say good-bye to your kids, etc. I hope he embarrases him like he did to Lacy.

Like I said, I still like Zags by dec but not willing to part w/6k on it. I'm cool with 2500. I've had a hell of an april and it would be just plain foolish to let it all ride and then some, on 1 fight. As it stands, if Zags loses, I still have a very profitable month and if he wins the pot grows even bigger. Last week was a VERY close call w/Dawson against an "old" man. I couldn't even watch it. I was fortunate to get the W. Best of luck to us!

purse snatcher...HAHAHAHA

I have loaded up on Calzaghe like havent in a long time on a fighter.
But now with our man taking Hop and Romi hedging a bit (absolutley the right idea my friend), i have to do something.

But at -260 its not a great bet.

Call me crazy but i believe that Calzaghe inside at 450 has value. Calzaghe was super aggressive against kessler the first three rounds, than he got hit flush in the 4 and changed strategy boxed more.

ooooh everyone who thought Calzaghe walks right thru BHop is now second guessing themselves when a few months ago a few of you thought i was insane to even suggest Bhop has a shot in this. Back then i said i wasn't betting this but after further evaluation im gonna predict a Hopkins knockout. My reasons? BHop loves southpaws but my biggest reason is Calzaghe alleged strength in this which i feel will work right into Hopkins strength. What more can a counter puncher want then a guy who throws a thousand punches?. I think Cal is taylor made for Bhop. Cal is known to have the great chin but it is gonna get a major test because he throws so many punches and its a counter punchers dream. Im not worried about Hopkins stamina. Does he ever looked tired after a fight? I haven't seen this guy get hit in 15 years and now this pitty patter is gonna light him up? Im gonna go Hopkins by knockout or decision and there is no way in my mind BHop gets punked here. Guy is to good for to long and i can't bail on him just yet. I need to see someone hit him. That chin is gonna get tested like never before. Counter puncher against a high volume fighter. Well what ever you guys bet good luck. Its a great night of fights with the UFC in the mix.

Zerwas and tonym have mentioned that our guy likes Hop, he seems pretty confident as well. The note about Mackie Shilstone stood out.

I put another unit on 'Leader after 3 loses or draw +270', that's basically my Hopkins bet. I tell ya, if Calzaghe starts slow and is behind after 3, and I end up losing a +270 bet on Calzaghe, that would be a hilarious disaster.

Good luck guys!

FrankY i think you are going a little overboard here. When was the last fight Hopkins was accused of dirty tactics? This sounds like stuff drug up back when Foreman was doing color for HBO. I didn't see any blatant dirty stuff against Winky, Tarver, Delahoya, and Taylor. Hopkins is selling the fight that is why he said that stupid stuff. Kinda the same stuff Money May said with Hatton. Does Hopkins have a big mouth? Sure but i would never take anything he said to heart. Look what he did with Trinadad. Hell the whole country of Mexico wanted to attack us.

Hopkins does a lot of subtle, dirty stuff. He leads with his head as bad as Holyfield. he holds and hits a ton to which isn't exactly legal either. my biggest complaint about Hopkins though would be his head. Wright and Taylor were both cut with it.

Someone should Tito Trinidad he is really Mexican and not Puerto Rican. Won't he be surprised! Just watch the fight. Hopkins will punch, lunge, hold, grab, headbutt all nite. Trinidad the Mexican-I can't get over that remarkable discovery!
