Two betting ideas to look at tonight are both HW prospects by stoppage. Now to me, I'm not sure if Franklin or Wallin are going anywhere in the long term. Their promoter has set this card up specifically for them to make a statement however. Franklin is -125 and Wallin is -250. Now if you put them both together, you have +150. Both guys have been set up to be impressive, the rest is up to them.
Wallin is facing BJ Flores, who fought most of his career at CW or right at the HW limit. Tonight, he is not only 40, but he is fighting at a career high weight. He also lost two of the last four, getting stopped in both. If Wallin can't stop a guy who might be coming in just for the check, and is more of a CW if not, then he isn't a prospect at all.
Franklin decided not to fight for a long stretch in his last fight against Booker and took some heat for it. If he has any idea what his career needs, he should come out with a purpose tonight. Jerry Forrest's record at 25-2, 19 KOs looks impressive, but let's look at it closer. He lost clearly to the only two names he faced, getting stopped in one to Gerald Washington and losing every round to Michael Hunter 5 years ago. 17 of his wins have come against losing records and another 5 wins have come against guys with less than 9 wins at the time. Franklin NEEDS to stop this guy.
I'd be shocked if at least one of these don't end in a KO, and surprised if both don't. If Wallin & Franklin want to show the boxing fans they should be taken seriously as prospects, tonight is the night. I think both are worth a SMALL play. These aren't locks, but these guys are set up to feast. If they don't, it's on them.
