after going a so-so 7-3 on my last futures post, but losing my big odds, big bet with lazy, unprepared eric harding over journeyman glen johnson, here goes....
1)...james toney-bernard hopkins over 10.5 rounds....best bet so far this year..
2 guys that are possibly the slickest, most skilled boxers in the game(roy jones is just flat out fast....his speed is his skill).....not really big punchers...need to wear guys down....both cautious....tend to counter-punch....fight at a deliberate pace.....both have iron chins...neither has ever been close to being stopped...both have gone the distance with roy jones...and both getting up in years....
i see a cautious, deliberate fight with both guys trying to out-cute the other.....
toney proved he can make it through 12 at a vicious pace....if he is stronger than hopkins,as i suspect,he won`t be able
to hunt him down later in the fight...jirov came to toney....toney`s not a chaser....
two tough old veterans....classic boxers....resilient...great chins....not cut prone....
i suspect that the fight will be tactical, and if either gets stunned,it will get even more cautous....
a win here by either, really cements their lega
cy as truly "great" fighters..
the only rub could be toney not getting in "tip top" shape.....and for him to come in at less than top shape for one of the mega-fights of his career, would seriously surprise me.....
regardless,he hasn`t always come in to fights in tip top shape and has never been close to being stopped...
the fight is in early august,i believe.....laid -240....a little heavy for my taste, but in all honesty, considering what you are getting, this prop looks to be a bargain to me....
also, hopkins at +170 might be a value play....also,putting a small wager on a draw at +1400 might be worth throwing a few bucks away on on a chance...
2)clay bey-castillo over 10 rounds.....neither a particularly big heavyweight.....neither a huge puncher....both crafty....tough....never stopped....castillo a lefty....should be a distance fight....laying fairly heavy wood again....-300.........small play.....
more to come..
