"the bunker"
if hopkins loses to dlh,i`m retiring.....i know anything can and does happen in boxing, but that will pretty much ruin my own opinion of myself as a boxing observer....

i`ve looked at this fight every which way...i`ve heard hopkins state that he totally understands that oscar plans to out-quick him....and understands that he can`t chase dlh around the ring...throwing one punch at a time....

he knows that dlh doesn`t like to be hit to the body....

he`s bigger...never out of shape....slicker...more savvy....started out at 177 lbs...while oscar was a jr lightweight,i think....naturally much bigger...taller...fighting at his natural,optimum weight...as he has for well over a decade..

and i believe at this weight....an "artificial",not optimum fighting weight, dlh`s stamina has to once again fail him by around the 8th or 9th....if hopkins makes him work...

hopkins is old...but he hasn`t fought draining, deteriorating fights the last few years...he`s dominated....while dlh has been life and death in many fights....just maybe,to many tough, high profile fights...

who is really older?....boxing wise?...imo,a legit question...

he will outbox hopkins....some think so....well,keith holmes, carl daniels and syd vanderpool couldn`t...all lefties...good,solid middleweights...none of these fights were really close...

hopkins` legacy is solidly wrapped around winning this fight....dlh can lose...and it`s o.k....the guy has had a great career...moving up the ladder and winning title after title..beating a slew of champions.....this is gravy for dlh....

hopkins?.....if he loses, how many great fighters did he beat in his career?...trinidad.....a blown-up welterweight....

i think hopkins is a fantastic all-round fighter....a top 5 pfp...no doubt...but the middleweight division has been horrible...very weak during his reign...he lost to roy jones...it wasn`t really close...

i saw a guy like felix sturm "beat" dlh at middleweight...he couldn`t punch, but he was MUCH STRONGER THAN DLH....

i saw a steroid bloated "el feroz" throw dlh around the ring for 7 rounds until his musclebound ass collapsed under it`s own weight...

dlh has not demonstrated that he has carried his power with him into the higher weight classes..

if hopkins loses here i won`t defend his legacy....i don`t care how old he is....it will, imo, cast doubt on just how great his career has really been...

he should beat dlh....convincingly.....

unless he plans on making a fortune by betting on dlh....the rumors are out there...

or,maybe he just hits the wall...he is almost 40....

i just don`t see it...dlh hasn`t looked good in awhile...if he wins here,he has to be considered an all-time great....

and hopkins will be a footnote...seriously...who has he beaten that raises anyone`s eyebrows?....besides trinidad?...

all those defenses?...they won`t stand the acid test...of a truly great fighter...

hell, you see promoter frank warren doing the same type of thing in europe with guys like ricky hatton(non-champion) and calzaghe(i think calzaghe is or was an excellent fighter...i blame warren for his career going in the toilet).....

you see kohl and universum doing it in germany with some questionnable champions......

you saw it in pennsylvania with paul spadafora....imo,tapia fought a bunch of second raters and avoided all the really difficult fights..

can`t believe the guy would ruin his legacy....

but,who knows....

it is,after all,boxing...

I have to agree with you in that Hops owns DLH, but................this is only thing that has me thinking. At Boxing Scene.com (great site with FREE full fight downloads) I was re- watching Tito vs Hops. It was BRUTALLY obvious in 1st few rds that the announcers were clueless. If you heard the commentary ALONE with NO VISUAL, you had a fight image of Tito being somewhat in control of a close fight untill very late. I would think Hopkins and his camp have to know the crowd and commentators will be pro Oscar. Every sq in the building will most likely bet DLH at + money and cheer DLH with every weak ass pitter patter punch he may land. All that said, Hops is no bookworm or PHD, but he is smart enough to know he needs to really mess this kid up to shut up the naysayers and secure his legacy. ............on side note, the earleir Strum fightin day, may show how good/bad both he and DLH really are. If this guy upsets Strum, expevt Hopkins to hit -300.

I am in no way saying which way to bet, as I am on Hops already, BUT I say Hops STOPS DLH in RD 9-11.

Thanks for bein kool Garden, I love talkin shop and layed off here b/c I felt I made others uncomfortable for unknown reasons.

Great write up. I cant speak for Mayorgafan, but I think he is expecting a massacre as well.

You just did because that's what I expect to happen. :142lmao: I don't buy into any idea of Hopkins betting AGAINST himself either. That would just be stupid. He is making 3 times more $$$ than he has ever made in any fight. Hopkins is 1 of those guys that has always had his legacy on his mind. He knows if he losses to ODLH, people are going to question how good he really was.

Hopkins is going to pressure the hell out of ODLH and be looking for the stoppage. Against Tito he had to be kind of cautious because Trinidad has real power. ODLH can;t punch worth a shit and will not be able to keep Hopkins off him. If Hopkins pressures ODLH like he can there's a good chance he stops him late. Hopkins has WAYYYY superios stamina and he does like to hit the body (which ODLH don;t like).

thanks for the responses guys.......i`ve been reading,on some boards, that dlh is the play here....

yeah, the venue will be all oscar....and if oscar can get to the cards..that is a concern.......the "arum factor"...lol

and after losing with nate campbell ...sticking his chin out and getting banked.....

seeing emanuel augustus get jobbed royally vs courtney burton....

hearing kali meehan`s corner basicallly tell him to go into a shell late vs brewster.....and now hearing that brewster gets holifield as his reward for basically doing nothing vs meehan....

and poor vivian harris has to go back to germany to fight urkal again because sauerland got the purse bid....after fighting and beating him in germany less than 6 months ago!!!....i feel for harris...that sucks ....

.i`m just shaking my head....

nothing surprises me....

but,if bernard doesn`t show up,i will be more disappointed than i`ve been in a long while....a very long while....

g.l. to us...

btw.i was thinking the same thing regarding sturm......sturm will be fighting robert frazier and not raymond joval...what a shame.....joval was almost a sure win for sturm....and the over was probably as good as gold...

lost value on a few parlays...

I agree with the board that Hopkins is the play here. I've long been a De La Hoya supporter but gotta think that Hopkins presents too much of a challenge for Oscar in this weight class. Moreover, I think this may be the first fight that Oscar can't finish on his feet. In the fight against Vargas, Oscar got rocked by an early punch before pulling out a great performance. I think Hopkins will definitely get in his shots. In addition to Hopkins -220, I've made a couple of additional plays favoring Hopkins.

Hopkins wins inside distance +210
Fight won't go past round 8 +420

DLH was also very hurt by Mosely in the 9th round of the rematch.

I still can't pull the trigger on Hopkins though. I posted a few thoughts on the fight in damiens "yo boxlocks" thread but I'll add a few more here. Threre's no dought in my mind that we will see DLH give everything he has in this fight and he seems very focused. He claimes he hardly trained for the Sturm fight and I believe him. If he has anything left in the tank you will see it Sat. night and if this fight goes to the scorecards...who knows.

As I have posted in other threads my intitial take on this fight is that Hopkins is too big and too strong for DLH. I still might play Hopkins but something doesn't seem right here, everyone I know thinks Hopkins will win easily but the line is -200???

I need some more time to think on this one.

Boxlocks,
this reminds me of another mega fight...Tyson vs. Lewis. The line was -200 for Lewis and all the public money was going to Tyson. I made a killing on that fight with Lewis to win and Lewis by KO.
