a european friend on another site(box....it`s t.m.) seems to think that mario veit has an outside shot at beating joe calzaghe tomorrow night in germany....as around a 5-1 dog....

and, imo, the over 8.5 looks like a line that`s a little skewed because several years ago, veit was stopped in the british isles in one round by calzaghe...his only loss...

veit is 6`3" tall....he`s awkward and from what i`ve been told, moves pretty well....

calzaghe has gone long stretches without fighting in recent years....and imo, shouldn`t be particularly sharp....

i played over 8.5 at +113 at pinny...oly is offering +110....

the european contact(from gernmany),says that there will be one german judge.....he also says that veit has improved quite a bit since the calzaghe blow out in wales(calzaghe`s home country)...

calzaghe has fought outside of the british isles once(denmark).....vs a weak opponent(wil mcintyre)

this may be a little dicey for joe.......

at around 5-1,a very small bet on veit might not be a horrible idea....and the over should have a definite chance at hitting...

maybe calzaghe blows him out again....it will be much tougher in germany,imo...given calzaghe`s inactivity and possible lack of focus....

don`t blow a wad....just passing it on...

here`s the info...

""".Hope you guys did good lately.
I believe Veit has a decent chance to win that fight. In his only lose until now he got knocked out by Calzaghe in the first round this is the rematch.
Veit has improved since and Calzaghe is fighting first time not in england.
One german judge.
Calzaghe slaps alot with the inside of his gloves. Maybe the referee steps in.
Calzaghe is taking Veit not 100 procent serious.
+550 is way out of line in my humble opinion.
The fight will go the distance with Veit having a fair shot he is very tall and moves pretty well."""

now,i don`t know that much about veit..to be honest..........his competition is sketchy...i do know that calzaghe`s career has been stalled recently......but,the guy that provided the info i can vouch for.....

as i said,don`t go apesh-t....

pat...i`m thinking somewhere in the 12-1 p.m. area eastern time tomorrow....

as i said,i`m no expert on veit....far from it....and 5-1 means that the linesmakers aren`t giving veit much chance....

i played it,though..the side small...the over more so....the guy providing the info is usually very solid...

g.l.

btw....box,what do you think of tony`s take on this?...i`m a tad skeptical on veit winning outright....but,in germany, with at least one biased judge,if it gets to the cards, who knows...

i finally heard from a british friend on this match-up.....

trying to be fair and balanced....lol

i asked why there wasn`t much buzz on a calzaghe championship fight....here`s his respnse....

"""There are a few reasons why this fight isn't been discussed.

1) Not on live on UK TV.

2) A backward step for Calzaghe.

3) Early suggestions of a Mario Veit improvement have been grossely exagerated if you look at Brewer's results post his Veit loss.

4) Brewer's subsequent defeats have made alot of fans think that Veit's performance vs Salem (in which he was lucky lucky to get the decision) was not just a one-off bad one. Salem is a club fighter who got outclassed by Joe.

The only factors that make it interesting is the venue and if Veit can last the first round this time. Also there have been a few mutterings that Joe is struggling to beat the scales this time.

I think Veit will do a little better this time, but Joe is going to win and before we will get the chance to see if he is tight at the weight."'"""

veit is a longshot for a reason...as i said,if you play the side,don`t be foolish..it`s a longshot...

not surprised that the opinions differ....euro`s are very nationalistic...more than we are over here,imo...

A few Calzaghe quotes...

"I'm going back over trodden ground that I covered 4 years ago," sighed a bitter Calzaghe. "Its because of this situation that my previous scheduled fight with Brian McGee was called off last month. I trained really hard for that fight but it was all for nothing and I will make Veit pay for that."

"Obviously my going to Germany takes away the comfort factor for me," Calzaghe said. "I have to make sure that I win decisively. I don't think I'll be as lucky again to knock Veit out as early as I did the first time we fought but I do think that I'll have the chance to knock him out all the same.?

"I think going to Germany will give me a bit more incentive, a bit more fire in me to put on the kind of performance that I have to. Because obviously my last was one of my worst performances and at the end of the day, I can't afford to fight like that again. If I do, then I expect to get beaten."

Calzaghe hasn't been active against decent comp for a while now, but he did fight twice in 2004 so its not like he's coming off a long layoff. Yes he looked like shit against Salem but he admits that and he probably wasn't real motivated for that fight. From what I've read, Calzaghe was in great shape for the Reid fight that fell through, and he stayed in great shape for this one.

I keep hearing that Veit has gotten much better since he was stopped by Calzaghe 4 years ago. But from looking at his fights since then I don't see how you can tell that he's gotten better. He hasn't been destroyed in the first round since then, I guess thats an improvement. Veit is getting credit for his late round stoppage of Brewer, but we all know that Brewer is shot, he was stopped by a complete scrub in his next fight. Veit is also getting credit for his win over Salem, but it was a close split decision in Germany so we all know Salem won the fight easily.

Btw, before Brewer, Veit had gone the distance in 7 straight fights against very weak comp so he'll have no power to keep Joe off him.

Calzaghe and his people weren't born yesterday, they know what it means to fight in Germany and thats my main reason for playing the under. I can't find the other quotes I read but Joe says he plans on making his mark on Veit very early in the fight. He knows that stopping Veit is the only way to keep it out of the judges hands. If this fight was in Wales I probably wouldn't play the under because Joe wouldn't be in the same shape and he wouldn't feel the need to stop Veit.

To me, playing the under is playing Calzaghe without laying the wood. I think if this fight goes over 8.5, Joe is in big trouble.

Calzaghe is in very good shape, he's very motivated by the recent politics, and he knows he needs a ko to win in Germany. I like the under here.

i`m reporting what tonymontana provided......you can read it in my thread or over at the other site...

i honestly did not put much effort into scoping this fight out....any effort,actually....

i wasn`t all that interested...and apparently,many british fans aren`t that interested....

calzaghe has lost much of his fan base due to his recent avoidance of top fights...maybe more due to his mgmt. and their wish to keep their cash cow unscathed... than his personal druthers...

calzaghe should win.....we`ll see....

g.l,all...

I read T's post, and to be honest I don't like being on the other side of him.
But its a small play, without juice, and I like my chances.

let me say one thing on the calzaghe fight tomorrow....

i posted the info on the over based on the say so of a german friend......a sharp european boxing player..he`s a friend of box`s also......of course,he`s german touting a german fighter....honestly,i liked the over a bit myself...and played it small before i read the friend`s info.......

i didn`t see box`s play on the under...if i had,i wouldn`t have posted...it was a mistake...i missed his play...not my intention to confuse any players or muddy the waters...

i didn`t do much work on this fight...but the guy that i quoted,as i said,is sharp...as is box.....just a difference of opinion....

it will be fine with me if calzaghe k.o.`s veit in the first round....no biggie.....and if you played veit,i hope it was small.....the odds are substantial...understand that veit is not expected to win.....

the debate seems to be regarding whether veit can last 8.5 rounds...we`ll see tomorrow morning...

good luck to all....not a fight or a prop to go crazy on...

again,g.l everyone...

sorry for any confusiuon...

From ic Wales...

Veit has already got under Calzaghe's skin as his advisers forced the Welshman to withdraw from a voluntary defence against Brian Magee at the 11th hour back in March.

Promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl invoked a WBO rule that states a boxer can't fight a voluntary defence 60 days before a mandatory contest.

So Calzaghe had no option to withdraw from his fight with Irishman Magee in Belfast 48 hours before they were due to step into the ring.

Calzaghe said, "Due to the farce surrounding the Magee fight I've been in training for this battle with Veit a long time.

"I trained for eight hard weeks for Magee and was then forced to pull out and, after a week's break - so I didn't over-train and burn out - I've trained for almost seven weeks for Veit.

"Withdrawing from the Magee fight was a nightmare as I'd spent thousands of pounds on sparring partners and didn't recoup any money. So, for that reason, Veit's going to pay.

"I've spent most of this year in the gym and it's been a long hard slog but I'm feeling in top shape and at my peak."

no one, no matter how 'smart' gets every fight right. he gave you information based on his belief. I thought ruiz would win last week, I was wrong it happens. he'll be right much more often than not so you guys got a good thing going. I'm looking for a euro contact myself.
