In boxing, it's not always the fight that is the biggest challenge. Just ask Alexander Povetkin (10-0, 8 KOs). The 2004 Olympic super heavyweight gold medalist has had a hard time finding opponents. "It's been increasingly difficult to find opponents for Alexander," said Sauerland matchmaker Hagen Doering. "We have checked with so many heavyweights but nobody seems to be interested. It looks as if the name Povetkin is already feared around the world." Former world title challengers Danny Williams and Monte Barrett were named as fighters who refused to get in the same ring with Povetkin. "He's got a golden future ahead of him," praised the matchmaker. "He's strong, fast and tough to hit." After a long search, Sauerland Event were eventually able to name a new opponent: David Bostice (37-11, 15 KOs). The 34-year-old American will come face-to-face with Povetkin in Rostock on March 3. "Povetkin is up-and-coming," Doering warned. "There is no stopping him."

Alexander Povetkin (Russian: Алекса́ндр

Владимирович Пове́ткин; born in Kursk, Russia on September 2, 1979). Height 188 cm (6′ 2″). Is a Russian boxer. As an amateur, Povetkin won all of the all possible tournaments in the super heavyweight division including: national titles, international title, both European and Asian titles, Intercontinental title, world title in 2003, he also won the gold medal in super-heavyweight (>91 kg) boxing at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece. His amateur record is 125 wins and 7 defeats. Povetkin avenged all of his defeats before turning professional. Before his amateur boxing career he has also won 1999 World kickboxing championship and a 2000 European title in professionl kickboxing.

Alexander Povetkin made his professional debut in Germany June 11, 2005 by defeating German Muhammed Ali Durmaz by 2nd round TKO.
On December 17, 2005 he TKO'd American Willie Chapman in five rounds for his fifth consecutive win of 2005, all but one occurring by knockout. On March 4, 2006 Povetkin scored a 2nd round KO over ******** 1992 Olympic silver medal winner Richard Bango. Later that year, on April 22, he won his most important fight to date by defeating Friday Ahunanya, in a one-sided six round unanimous decision in Mannheim, Germany. He followed up those wins with a fourth round TKO in Hannover, Germany on June 3, 2006 against Ecuador's Livin Castillo and a fifth round TKO on September 23, 2006 against American Ed Mahone in Wetzlar, Germany. His latest fight, held on December 10, was against experienced ex-cruiserweight champion Imamu Mayfield. It was Povetkin's first pro fight in his native Russia and was held on the undercard of Oleg Maskaev's first WBC title defense; the first time a heavyweight championship bout was held in Russia. Povetkin won this fight by way of a TKO in the third round, bringing his total record to 10 wins in 10 fights.

Because of his great amateur career, as well as an extremely solid early pro career, he is thought by many to be a very promising prospect in boxing's heavyweight division
