I have just recently got into boxing and I am confused as to the difference WBA WBC and IBA titles. I see that Nicolay Valuev is the WBA champion currently and also has a perfect professional record, but is ranked 8th in the world. Shouldn't he be at least 3rd as a champion? Also why don't the three champions box eachother to find an soletary champion as which is found in other sports, its all very confusing and your guys help would be greatly appreicated. Thanks.

There's also the WBO, but titles don't mean sh*t in boxing anymore. The only belt that means anything is the Ring magazine belt.

No reason to get confused about titles and rankings when they don't mean anything anyway.

Gotta go right now, I'll try to explain things a little better later on

Like Boxlocks said, titles are pretty much ussless these days. I dont really think the Ring belt means much either, but does have a little bit more credibility.

The linear champ means the most IMO, basically its the person who beats the man in the division. Or the person who unifies the 3 main titles.

Take the Welterweight division for example, whilst Floyd Mayweather might be the best fighter in the division and Margarito the most proven. Neither have real claims to being the Welterweight "Champ", the real champion imo, is the linear champion Carlos Baldomir. And no fighter can call themselves the real champ until they beat him, or he retires.

Cory Spinks unified the titles by beating Mayorga >

Zab Judah assumed the Linear Champ status by beating Spinks >

Carlos Baldomir assumed the Linear Champ status by beating Judah.

That probably confused you more, just my 2 cents.

To be honest, and I'm not trying to be prick

This question doesn't belong in a gambling forum, if you're asking these questions you shouldn't be wagering on this sport at all...seriously

I suggest going to some boxing forums and learning the fight game a little more before blindly laying your money down.

boxlocks is right, learning about the sport and knowing it, and being able to gamble on it effectively are two different things, there are plenty of guys at the boxing forums I frequent who can't make any money betting the sport, yet somehow can break down fighters styles, fight matchups and historical angles better than the hacks you read in any magazines, it's just the way it is, like the football prediction shows not being any good.
