Boxing Scorecards Point Spreads:

This week I decided to try something new with Boxing. Too often a fighter is favored by such a big moneyline that players often don't want to lay the chalk. When looking at the NFL, if Texas is playing the N.E. Patriots, one would be hard pressed to take the underdog Texans with the moneyline. However a +20 with Texas would be more appetizing. You can lose the game , but cover the Point Spread. Same holds true here. You can bet a live underdog, lose the fight, and still cover the point spread. Takes away from the 'bad beat' hometown decsions that have plagued boxing in the past. In same respect, you can lay the point spread on the favorite and avoid those high moneylines.

Here's how it works.

*The point spread is determined by the difference in the combined total of all 3 judges scorecards for each fighter. Bouts must complete the total scheduled rounds listed.
Example: The point Spread on Fighter A is -18. Fighter A wins bout by scores of 120-108,

116-114,117-111. Fighter A total 353 minus Fighter B total 333. The score would be 20. Therefore

Fighter A -18 would win the wager.

*A bout that does not complete the listed scheduled rounds is declared 'No Action' and wagers are refunded.

*If point spread and difference tie, wagers are declared a 'Push' and wagers are refunded.

Here's one of this weeks bouts being offered @ Wagerweb and xxxxxxxx. (Wagerweb advertises here.)

5th March, 2005-Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA 11pm est
Jose Luis Castillo -17
Julio Diaz +17

Interested in you boxing bettors feedback on this new wagering option.

Its a good idea and I've actually wondered why books didn't offer something similar in the past due to the fact that most gamblers don't like laying more than -110.

Unfortunatly I don't trust any judges enough to risk money on their decisions.

"the bunker"
if i were betting this one....as joey laid it out....i`d look at diaz....

if i get it,this has to go the distance for action......and for castillo to get the money based on this,he`d have to blow out diaz....or have multiple knockdowns..and the latter is possible.....

but,i`m pretty sure that diaz, given his questionnable whiskers, will be boxing for as long as possible....and he`s a decent boxer/puncher....he`ll almost certainly get out to a lead,imo....

castillo will probably close stronger as diaz wears down.....he may stop him...but,if it goes to the cards,i`d bet that it will be fairly close....closer than 17 points..even given castillo`s promotional edge....

even if castillo wins 8 rounds on all the judges cards(and his guy is promoting this)it`s still only a 12 point win... as i said, the knockdowns would be key...and diaz has a tendency to hit the canvas....

if castillo gets multiple knockdowns,he`ll more than likely stop diaz.....it would take 2 knockdowns given this scenario...

and if he`s way ahead in the later rounds, maybe diaz takes chances...and if he takes chances,he might go bye-bye....

interesting thought....

i`ve got castillo tied up in some parlays...with a hedge on diaz by decision at 6-1......

diaz has to box...he has to keep distance...and i`m quite sure that`s what he`ll do....just like he fought jauregui...who has 2 stoppages of castillo around 10 years ago....i believe that castillo beats jauregui now....

cuts are a concern...

it gets to the cards, diaz has a shot,imo...

but, this is a step up in class for diaz...and castillo,if not drained by making 135,will be a much bigger guy the night of the fight....may be some "gatti-esque" weight gain by fighttime for castillo...
