Joe Calzaghe vs Byron Mitchell, this Saturday. Maybe Gardenweaswel can back me on this but from what I understand, Mitchell is not your knock out candidate. Olympic has the fight over 11.5 rounds @ -130 (10/13, 1.77). Therefore Calzaghe to win on points is the most probable situation. After confirming this with a boxing linemaker, there is HUGE VALUE in Paddy Power's 9/2 (+450) that Calzaghe wins by points. Get on it while you still can!

and -130

and -130

is not exorbitant......good post alb...my only reservation is that it`s in calzaghe`s hometown...... but after checking back,he doesn`t necessarily stop guys when he fights in cardiff.....mitchell has a decent set of whiskers.....

might ride your coattails.......win or lose,i think your logic is sound....good job.

Update!

Update!

Calzaghe-Mitchell over 11.5 -105 (Olympic)

Note
Although Mitchell has never been ko'd, he was
down twice in the 1st round to Julio Cesar Green
and once in the 12th round to Manny Siaca.

without knowing squat about boxing, my skill is in finding bad lines and that is a horribly bad line. Nowhere in line with what it should be. Only other house I found that had a line on that up yet had it at -300. So even if you don't think it will necessarily happen it is an incredible value. Boxlocks. I wish i could have an account there so bad.

Olympic doesn't have a line on Calzaghe
by decision, yet. But -300 compared to +450!!!
Somethings fishy here.

Is it really that hard to get access to UK books?

I am going to the fight tomorrow, and I actually know Joe Calzaghe personally well.

However, I do not know too much about Byron Mitchell. Taking Calzaghe on points may be the shrewd move, and I would have no hesitation in backing at a 9/2 quote. However, do not underestimate Calzaghe's power. He put down Eubank with his very first punch, and has knocked out a lot of his opponents. Going back to his amatuer days up to the time he became champion, he virtually knocked everybody out.

Gardenweasel you are correct to say that he has not knocked everybody out in Cardiff, however a lot of this was due to his elbow problems, which he has now put behind him. There was no shame in beating Charles Brewer on points, who I understand is a very tough boxer, but a stoppage is not out of the question here.

You are talking about a time in Calzaghe's career, where he is out to show he is easily the best boxer in this division. To say the likes of Eric Lucas and Sven Ottke can beat him is absolute nonsense, so he will be out to put on a good show in Cardiff. I believe he has already persuaded a lot of people out in the US just how good he is,but Joe is a home boy at heart, and is never comfortable travelling a long way from home. This is not a sign of his boxing ability, but it is the way a lot of people are in this area where we live, so there is no shame in that. :nono:

i think you know from our previous discussion of calzaghe that i am a calzaghe guy....and i am gonna back off of my "over" wager in the fight....it`s ashamed i couldn`t recall the wager...all my wagers this weekend, for that matter...i`m not doing my work...

i`ve been distracted this week and i`m not with it....so if anybody went with over in the calzaghe bout,apologies....it may win...but,i really don`t have a strong opinion at all...

i`ll regroup after the weekend and have some good stuff....don`t trust myself this weekend....something is telling me to wager on poor fighters.....

maybe someone put a mojo on me....i `ve looked at several of my wagers and i`m shaking my head....

thank god i didn`t post `em...:nono: :D

Gardenweasel,

As always I respect your posts on this great sport.

If you was a Calzaghe fan before, then you must be a even bigger one now.

Firstly, I want to give great respect to Byron Mitchell. For five years now, I have become accustomed to boxers coming from all parts of the world, and are content to box twelve rounds with Calzaghe, and to lose on points. Tonight, I saw one of the first boxers to have enough belief in his own ability to come and try to KO Calzaghe. He caught him with a good shot in Round Two which floored Calzaghe for the first time in his career. From ringside, I thought Calzaghe had slipped, but Tv has clearly shown he was caught and even looked a little shaky climbing back up.

However, for the five short minutes this fight lasted, you had two boxers prepared to go at it 100% and this is becoming a increased rarity in boxing these days. I think Calzaghe done a lot to confirm his credentials to the American public. Bottom line he outboxed a opponent, and stopped a very very tough fighter. His hand speed is amazing.

The main positive is that the fact that Joe was knocked down, might entice some fighters to actaully come out and fight, rather than running scared as they have been for the last four years. I am dreaming of Bernard Hopkins coming over to Wales, and getting his ass kicked. With Hopkins at a loose end at the moment, it will be interesting to see if he will bring his cockiness and arrogance over the pond to fight. He is a diry fighter and will be tough, but as tonight, I imagine that Calzaghe hand speed will be something that Hopkins would never have seen before.

The great champions all have to know what its like to get knocked down in a fight. The fact he got back up and slammed the guy says alot.

Watch out for this guy !

With all due respect, why can't Calzaghe
cross the pond and fight Hopkins here
in the great U.S.A.?

With all due respect...why the hell should Calzaghe travel thousands of miles across water to defend his title which he has now defended countless times. If Bernard Hopkins wants the belt, then he should come acorss and get it. I can personally not see this fight happening because Hopkins knows he will get beat, and will not come across.

Should Hopkins come over and get the belt, then I would find it acceptable, that Calzaghe should then come to you to get it back, but while the belt is in Wales, it stays in Wales as far as I am concerned.

That makes complete sence. But during the
fight I heard one of the commentaters say
that Calzaghe eventually wanted to come over
to the U.S. to fight. And I think convincingly
beating one of our best pound for pound fighters
would make a pretty good American debut.

I agree that he deserves to fight wherever he
wants. I just thought he might want to win that
fight in America.

I just read that last year Hopkins agreed to
fight Calzaghe for 3 million, but the next day
he renegged and doubled his asking price!
Wish Hopkins would quit being stubborn and
make this fight happen. He does't have too
many good years left, no time to play around.

I agree with Crooky. Calzaghe holds the title, Hopkins holds only other fighters to ransom. Hopkins has talked a good fight for many a year now and has talked himself out of many fights with his outragious demands,

If Hopkins trully believes he is still the best, then he should travel anywhere in the world and fight for small share of the purse.

The true facts are that Hopkins knew several years ago that his reputation and his EGO more so, would be worth nothing if he had fought Calzaghe then because his ars would have been whipped.

If the fight ever took place, which I very much doubt it will now, because Hopkins will be quaking as well as shitting in his boots more so than ever, there will be only one winner
