Fletch -I've seen Trinidad fight many times and I'm very familiar with him. What do you know about Joppy.
Does he have a big punch? Does he take a good punch? Does he throw combinations or does he load up with one big shot?
The one thing with Trinidad is that he has a propensity to get hit.
-250 is great! When I was in Vegas two weeks ago I saw it at -320. Is that still the line in Vegas. I assume Sunset is some type off offshore book.
Thanks

Joppy notes...he's billed at 5'10" admits to being only 5'8". Only pure middleweight in the elimination tourney. Trains extremely hard and always comes into fights well conditioned. Been training in a 14 x 16 foot ring. (MSG will be 20 ft ring). Concentrating on his lateral movement in camp..Potential problem, Joppy carries his right hand at chest level and Trinidad will exploit with hook. Hasn't really fought a lot of big names, will be defending his title for 9th time...Agree with Fletcher, think Felix gets him late...however wouldn't be surprised to see Felix on his butt once during fight...Will be very hard for Joppy to win a decision.

Thanks for the info. Out of curiosity, who are some of the big names he's fought? Defended title 9 times- that's impressive.

Trinidad has fought and defeated Pernell Whitaker,Oscar De la Hoya,David Reid, and Fernando Vargas. Joppy has beaten a VERY VERY over the hill Roberto Duran, Julio Cesar Green,Napolean Pitt, and Fernando Zuniga... not too impressive. Good luck, hope this helps.
While Joppy has defended 9 times he has yet to fight anyone anywhere near the caliber of Trinidad's opponents.

There's a good write up about the fight at www.houseofboxing.com
Some of the interesting tidbits: Trinidad will dedicate this fight to all the Puerto Rican mothers worldwide, Hector Camacho SR supposidely got into a fight with a 400lb Elvis impersonator that was the bodyguard for Christy Martin?!
I can't find anything better than -320. That's a lot to lay but I'm getting very close to pulling the trigger. I think Trinidad comes in focused and in tremendous shape. Trinidad and his father keep talking about how he will continue to go up in weight and eventually challenge Roy Jones. Its hard to tell when a guy that keeps moving up in weight will become unaffective.
In any case check out that story.

thats not alot to lay in boxing, hell you get more fights that are 800-850 and up then you do in the 180-360 range,so you have to look at it this way.
the winner meets my guy hopkins and he is a very mean east coast fighter.

A couple of interesting notes you all might be interested in reading.....Joppy was quoted as saying, "I feel if this fight goes the distance, they will give it to Trinidad. This is the business, so I will have to beat him every round, and make it decisive."

His style is not flashy and his mechanics are sound. He has power in both hands, excellent footwork and a strong defense.

Says his trainer, "Joppy is strong enough to hurt Trinidad with every punch he throws. I'd be surprised if this fight goes the distance. We're just gonna wear him down."

Expected words coming from the trainer, but I was looking at the under 12 rounds bet.

I dont think Joppy will win, and I dont think Felix will have trouble fighting at a higher weight. In my opinion, he was always been a middleweight stuck in the body of a welterweight.

I agree with the others who said this fight wont go the distance, and feel better about it after reading the comments that I listed above.

Boxing's one of my non-gambling sports as I'm chit-scared it's all rigged - yeah, I know, so is every other sport probably

But no doubt here that, as with bases, you have your faith in laying the chalk and it works - keep it up

Eric, nice job on the Trinidad pick. I got hurt earlier on my Spurs loss. However, I parlayed Tito with the under12 and the Dodgers for a very nice evening.

Great job!!

I was away fromthe computer for the past several days and have not had a chance to post.
I ended up taking Trinidad -300. I actually laid that several times over. Some people asked "aren't you afraid to bet on boxing? Don't you think it's fixed?" Well in some instances certainly, but not this one.
I liked the angle that the "owers that be" had alot more interest in seeing Trinidad advance than Joppy. So we had the "fix factor"on our side.
One would certainly be able to apply that to Trinidads next fight. The "powers that be" have much more interest in seeing Trinidad advance to fight Roy Jones.
I really hope that fight is made. I would love to see Jones train hard and take his opponent seriously. I think Jones, even a little past his prime, would be a handful for anyone under those circumstances.

Hard to tell if Jones is past his prime, we never get to see him fight anybody.

A very interesting thread on the fight, ya'll. I did read everyone's posts.. Fletcher, rrc, Rowdy, Kotys, Anders.

Just wasn't in the mood to pull the trigger on this one although I felt that Trinidad was the probable winner.

The "fix factor" with fighting does scare me a bit as Anders said. I'm sure that that is not an original thought but I do concur.

I did get lucky on the last fight placing a throw-away bet on Rahman. And won. That was great.

Being an obvious newbie to all this stuff I enjoy reading this stuff even if I choose not to actually play.

Enjoyed your comments rrc!
